About The Position

We are seeking a self-assured, decisive professional for the role of Health & Safety Officer in the GTA. This role provides on-site authority and support to ensure compliance with Caivan’s safety policies, IRS responsibilities, and regulatory requirements. This role focuses heavily on site inspections, hazard identification, training support, incident reporting, and collaboration with the Construction Team. The Health & Safety Officer plays a key part in enforcing and maintaining a safe work environment for all parties by executing field safety programs, completing SiteDocs documentation, supporting investigations, and reinforcing day-to-day safety practices across all job sites.

Requirements

  • 3–5 years of site safety experience in construction
  • NSCO Designation or Gold Seal Certification
  • Strong knowledge of OHSA and construction safety legislation
  • Experience conducting orientations, inspections, and safety audits
  • Ability to identify hazards, influence & enforce safe work practices
  • Strong leadership, communication, documentation, and interpersonal skills
  • Proficiency in SiteDocs, MS Word, and Excel
  • Valid driver’s license, reliable vehicle and ability to travel between the office and job sites
  • JHSC - Levels 1 & 2
  • CPR/First Aid certification required

  • Low & Mid-Rise Homebuilding Construction knowledge/experience is a significant asset

Responsibilities

  • Conduct routine safety inspections on all assigned construction sites, identifying hazards and ensuring corrective actions are implemented
  • Ensure high-quality documentation by maintaining accurate records and organizing files in a way that supports easy access, transparency, and compliance
  • Maintain accurate SiteDocs records for inspections, follow-ups, and action items
  • Engage with trades and site staff to reinforce safe work practices and address issues promptly
  • Document incidents, near-misses, and hazards in SiteDocs
  • Support incident investigations by gathering information, conducting interviews, and assisting with root cause analysis
  • Follow up on preventative and corrective action completion
  • Conduct or support new worker orientations, toolbox talks, and safety training sessions
  • Track worker and trade certifications in compliance with Caivan and regulatory requirements
  • Attend JHSC (Joint Health & Safety Committee) meetings as required and provide updates on site safety activities
  • Prepare agendas, action items, and follow-up reports as assigned
  • Participate in MOL visits, support documentation requests, and assist with follow-ups on orders
  • Ensure site readiness for regulatory inspections
  • Conduct regular emergency drills and ensure first aid supplies and safety boards are maintained
  • Support ongoing improvement of emergency response procedures
  • Work closely with Construction teams and the Director to ensure timely communication of hazards, incidents, and training needs
  • Participate in regular safety meetings and briefings
