The Health & Safety Manager will serve as a consultant advocating for the continuous improvement of comprehensive Environmental Health and Safety processes, procedures, and programs. This role involves effectively communicating challenges, successes, and areas of concern with management when potential hazards and risks are identified. The manager will act as a technical expert, advising steering committees, supervisors, and management on the best methods to resolve environmental, health, and safety concerns, including engineering controls, administrative measures, and personal protective equipment. The position requires investigating accidents to identify causes and prevent future occurrences, evaluating trends, and developing action plans to control or eliminate organizational barriers and hazards. This role also includes coordinating and conducting workplace audits and inspections, assessing ergonomics, and recommending solutions. Planning, developing, and conducting safety and occupational health training, as well as advising on appropriate handling of safety or health situations, are key responsibilities. The manager will monitor compliance with applicable laws and regulations, interpret new regulations, and devise compliance strategies. Investigating health-related complaints and inspecting facilities for compliance with public health legislation are also part of the role. The position involves preparing management reports, overseeing record maintenance, and introducing accident and injury prevention campaigns. Maintaining relationships with community, environmental groups, and other stakeholders, and collaborating with engineers or physicians to implement control measures are essential. A commitment to continuous improvement in occupational safety/health, environmental protection, and quality management is expected, along with an awareness of significant quality, safety/health, and environmental (QSHE) aspects and impacts.
