The Claremont Fiber Health & Safety Manager will lead the development, execution, and maintenance of health and safety initiatives for the Fiber manufacturing site, which employs over 700 people. This role involves providing leadership, oversight, and assistance in implementing health and safety programs and policies to ensure goal achievement and compliance with all applicable regulations and company initiatives. The position reports to the North America Health, Safety, & Environmental Director and has daily reporting to the Claremont Fiber Site Director in a matrix organization.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in occupational safety and health, or other related field.
  • 8 plus years of direct H&S experience including OSHA compliance, behavior-based safety, process hazard and risk analysis, root cause evaluation, incident management, standards and procedural development, auditing, and training.
  • 3 plus years’ experience in Cable or Fiber manufacturing.
  • Demonstrated ability to drive safety participation and accountability throughout all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to work independently and drive sustainable change.
  • Available to respond to site for medical treatment injuries and serious incidents outside regular working hours.
  • Strong knowledge of US health and safety regulations (OSHA).
  • Knowledge of worker’s compensation regulations.
  • Strong organizational & planning skills.
  • Excellent analytical skills & problem-solving skills.
  • Proficient with technology such as Teams, Excel, PowerPoint, Word and other standard computer applications.
  • Excellent interpersonal & communication skills (oral & written), able to interact with all levels in the organization.

Nice To Haves

  • CSP Certification preferred.
  • Knowledge and Experience with ISO Management Systems strongly preferred.
  • Experience with OSHA PSM Standard strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, train, and maintain policies, programs, and procedures to reduce team member injuries, minimize company exposure, and ensure compliance with Prysmian safety management systems and all applicable Health and Safety laws and regulations (OSHA, EPA, DOT).
  • Provide daily direction, supervision, and leadership to the site HSE Lead.
  • Collaborate with the Cable Plant H&S Manager on all safety and health-related matters.
  • Partner with the Cable Plant H&S Manager to provide oversight and direction to the on-site occupational health clinic.
  • Drive employee engagement and accountability at all site levels to achieve a 'Courage to Care' culture and the belief that zero injuries are attainable.
  • Proactively provide hands-on support in areas such as Health and Safety Procedure implementation (Corporate and site-specific), behavioral safety processes, problem analysis/troubleshooting, and interpretation of applicable legislation.
  • Facilitate and drive compliance with Prysmian Safety Mandates.
  • Collaborate with the Environmental Manager and Cable Plant H&S Manager to achieve and maintain certification to ISO 14001:2015 and ISO 45001:2018 Standards (Integrated Management System).
  • Participate in audits or meetings at other sites, as needed.
  • Partner with the Site Environmental and Sustainability Manager to ensure ongoing compliance with the Fiber Plant Process Safety Management (PSM) Standard regulation.
  • Drive the safety incident reporting process, ensuring effective incident investigation, reporting, root cause analysis, and corrective action execution and effectiveness.
  • Conduct and assist with internal and external health and safety audits and meet with regulatory agencies during facility inspections/audits as required.
  • Lead the development and execution of facility-specific health and safety training needs.
  • Participate in Operational HSE reviews and new installation HSE assessments.
  • Lead investigations into serious or critical EHS matters as directed by senior leadership.
  • Lead or participate in key Health & Safety team meetings, Kaizen events, and other key meetings where Health & Safety representation is requested.
  • Work closely with HSE counterparts and serve as the site representative to cross-regional forums for best practice sharing, idea exchange, and shared learning.
  • May serve as a backup to the Site Sustainability & Environmental Manager and Cable Plant H&S Manager, when needed.
  • Responsible for other key HSE initiatives as assigned by the NA HSE Leadership or Facility Leader.
