Requirements

Bachelor's degree or diploma in Occupational Health and Safety and/or equivalent industry experience
Construction Health and Safety Officer certificate
Minimum 5 years of relevant work experience in the heavy civil construction industry, with at least 4 years as a manager
In-depth knowledge of local, provincial, and national government Health & Safety acts, policies, regulations, codes and practices as they apply to the construction industry
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Fluency in both English and French is required
Ability to influence partners and stakeholders
Strong leadership qualities with a demonstrated track record of dealing successfully with various workplace stakeholders
Results oriented individual with the ability to interpret and effectively manage multiple and competing priorities and timelines
Valid driver’s license

Professional designation (e.g. GSC, CRSP, or CSP) will be considered an asset

Responsibilities

Oversee all health & safety matters of the project
Assist in developing/revising the project Safety Management System (SMS), including policies, plans and procedures
Ensure the compliance with the provincial and federal Health, Safety & Environmental requirements
Maintain a CNESST designation and good standing with the regulator(s)
Advise and guide the Joint Occupational Health and Safety Committee meetings
Prepare, deliver and/ or organize training programs, including confirmation that all construction personnel have suitable training and ASP recognition
Lead incident investigation team
Identify non-conformities and make recommendations to achieve compliance
Conduct regular site inspections and/or audits and ensure resolution of findings
Partner with the project management team to ensure timely H&S communication
Confirm that all employees in the group are properly qualified and trained to perform their work specific to safety
Review subcontractors’ qualifications and verify that they meet the minimum requirements set forth by the customer and partner organizations
Attend pre-construction meetings, progress meetings, and other required meetings
Liaise with governing agencies
