About The Position

This role provides primary care services to the site and coordinates and manages the site health program, including safety inspections, ergonomics training, and ergonomics assessments, to drive a reduction in work and non-work related injuries. The specialist will also undertake the management of testing programs required by local legislation. The role supports a safety culture aligned with Mondelēz Canada Inc. goals and objectives, aiming for zero incidents and an optimum environmental footprint. This involves ensuring facilities are well maintained, regulations and procedures are implemented, hazard/aspect assessments are conducted, incidents are reduced, and energy and waste are minimized. The specialist will assist with the cultural transformation regarding Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) to help the plant achieve zero accidents and incidents, support the implementation of all HSE programs and processes, and provide HSE expertise for the facility and all new projects and change management activities.

Requirements

  • Relevant qualifications in the area of Occupational Health or claims management.
  • Qualified Doctor or Nursing practitioner
  • Diploma or Degree qualifications in OHS/Claims & Injury Management, Workplace Ergonomics, Rehabilitation or related discipline
  • Relevant experience in OHS (Occupational Safety and Health)
  • Strong experience in an Injury Management & Rehabilitation role, ideally within a manufacturing environment
  • Knowledge of Workers Compensation and Injury Management legislative requirements
  • Experience as a Health, Safety and Environment Professional preferably within a manufacturing or commercial environment
  • Knowledge of legislation, regulations, and standards related to Environment and Safety
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills and ability to work with individuals at all levels
  • Strong multi-tasking and time management skills to meet deadlines
  • Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office (word, excel etc.) and other software programs
  • Ability to work independently and as a team
  • Background in manufacturing.
  • 3+ years of work experience in Health, Safety and Environment preferably in a manufacturing environment

Nice To Haves

  • Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) or Canadian Registered Safety Technician (CRST) Certification is desirable however NOT mandatory.

Responsibilities

  • Provide primary care services to the site and co-ordinate and effectively manage the site health program, including managing work related and non-work related injuries and illnesses
  • Coordinate preventative health and wellness programs to drive a reduction in work related injuries
  • Provide initial emergency response, resuscitation and stabilization of critically ill or injured (trauma) patients
  • Support the development of health related policies and Standard Operating Procedures for the site including the delivery of training where necessary
  • Management, maintenance and administration of medical equipment and consumables in line with legal and medical standards including audit of equipment and storing, dispensing, administering and safe disposal of medicines
  • Assess plant risk for health issues or any occupational related illness, acting upon the assessment and controlling them through proper preventive measures
  • Support improvement in HSE results and processes resulting in reduction of injuries, and the identification of hazards in the workplace
  • Assist in coordinating HSE compliance and risk assessment activities through functional teams
  • Participate in and/or provide information to others conducting HSE inspections, HSE audits, and incident investigations
  • Develop HSE communication materials for the plant and coordinate engagement activities
  • Develop, coordinate and deliver HSE training programs
  • Create Purchase Orders and other administrative tasks as required
  • Schedule and participate in HSE meetings (JHSC, standard governance, HSE pillar, DMS, etc.) and track follow up on actions to completion
  • Conduct data collection, reporting and trends analysis on HSE metrics (incidents, inspections, environmental data, etc.)
  • Collect, monitor and analyze environmental data and performance as it relates to carbon, water and food.
  • Assist the operations team with the return-to-work program and worker’s compensation claims.
  • Support implementation of all HSE programs and processes
  • Support execution of annual plans for facility/function wide HSE initiatives
  • Provide Health, Safety and Environment expertise for the facility/functions and for all new projects and change management activities
  • Support completion of appropriate risk assessments, and ensure follow ups implemented to minimize or eliminate incidents or asset losses that might cause harm to one of the company’s employees, contractors, visitors
  • Participate in investigations to understand all elements of incidents
  • Support Root Cause Analysis to ensure identification and closure of identified non-conformances to eliminate reoccurrences
  • Support development of technical guidance programs to identify and remove physical hazards
  • Support the site in its integrated lean six sigma IL6S journey by helping to implement the tools to build a stronger culture
