About The Position

The main responsibility for this position is to champion the site’s safety and emergency response programs. This person will take proactive measures to ensure that HSE is priority #1, will monitor the status of action items, liaise with internal and external groups on training, turnarounds, and other safety-related initiatives, programs, and projects, and ensure compliance with training; inspections; and federal, state, and local regulations. Position will maintain good communication with the Health, Safety, and Environmental department to ensure consistency with the Company’s HSE goals and objectives.

Requirements

  • High school diploma and/or an associate's degree in Occupational Health and Safety or a related field
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local safety regulations
  • Knowledge of computerized systems, programming, and computer languages (e.g., Microsoft Office). SAP experience preferred
  • Strong communication, customer service, and decision-making skills
  • Adaptable – amenable to change
  • Multi-task oriented – ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously
  • Works well under pressure – ability to meet tight deadlines with quality results
  • Must be willing to work rotating shifts and on-call in emergency situations
  • Must be able to attain a TWIC card

Nice To Haves

  • H&S Certification preferred
  • 3-5 years of related work experience; prior training experience and chemical plant experience preferred

Responsibilities

  • Oversee site safety programs daily, including but not limited to:
  • Equipment inspection programs and ensure area Production and Maintenance groups are responsible for the programs
  • Manage safety signs and bulletin boards
  • Plant respirator program, ensuring each department is responsible for their employees
  • Conduct plant drills and champion with monthly plant-wide safety meetings.
  • Audit site safety practices and provide feedback on compliance
  • Assist Maintenance and Operations in developing Site-Specific Safety improvements.
  • Assist Purchasing with Contractor Management
  • Liaise with contractors about safety issues. Recommend program improvements.
  • Facilitator of site Procedure Team and Administrator of site HSE TOC
  • Recognize hazardous situations and recommend corrective measures.
  • Member of the site Safety Committee and help implement action items of Safety Committee recommendations.
  • Be a visible presence on site to promote good health and safety practices and reduce risks
  • Assist in controlling hazardous working conditions and unsafe employee activities through interface with various levels of Management and Supervision.
  • Participate in incident investigations
  • Assist in required IH monitoring and notifications
  • Active involvement in Natural Disaster preparedness
  • Coordinate and participate in all ER training for site.
  • Coordinate annual fire extinguisher, fire hose, SCBA, escape pack, and level A suit inspections and testing.
  • Attend required Site safety meetings
  • Attend and scribe ESLT and other related management reviews
