About The Position

Manages/develops programs to reduce accidents, occupational illnesses, and exposure to long-term health hazards. This includes safety training, planned inspections, skill training, first-aid care, emergency preparedness, new employee and contractor indoctrination, physical protection, planned job observation, rules and practices, job analysis/procedures, and protective equipment. The role involves consistently supporting and guiding employees to maintain a safe work environment compliant with company policies and state/federal regulations. It also requires engaging employees to ensure desired safety behaviors are demonstrated, maintaining compliance with governmental regulatory agencies, assisting with root cause analysis for accidents and incidents, and developing/implementing corrective actions. The position provides coaching and subject matter expertise to regional management and employees on all health and safety matters, leads the region in executing the company's health and safety strategy to achieve zero losses, and oversees the region's Health & Safety management system. The role drives change as a change agent for the region's health and safety program, promotes a health & safety continuous improvement culture, and oversees processes and programs for regulatory and company compliance. It also minimizes losses by leading mitigation efforts, including managing workers' compensation claims, property damage, and business interruption, and promotes operational risk management concepts, including property protection.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in Safety Management, Occupational Health, Industrial Hygiene or related subject or equivalent experience and training.
  • Minimum five years of progressive health and safety experience, preferably in a mining, manufacturing or construction environment.
  • MSHA experience is desired, with OSHA/DOT experience a strong plus.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office software including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and set priorities appropriately.
  • Fluency in spoken and written English.
  • Must be able to support a continuous improvement environment as well as change management initiatives.
  • Able to travel.
  • Able to develop and conduct training programs.
  • Excellent conflict resolution, communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of mine safety and health principles and practices, techniques and procedures, regulations, and standards as they apply to conducting inspections/investigations, identifying and evaluating unsafe conditions, and recommending methods to correct unsafe conditions.
  • Knowledge of people management skills.
  • Knowledge of continuous manufacturing business sector.
  • Technical creditability as it relates to industry, with a preference on mining and lime kilns.
