About The Position

LaPrairie Crane is seeking a full-time Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) Advisor to join their team in Nisku, Alberta. This primary HSE role is responsible for guiding operational management and crews at worksites, translating safety compliance requirements into practical, consistent, and effective day-to-day work practices. The ideal candidate is enthusiastic, organized, adaptable, and enjoys working in a fast-paced, multi-tasking environment. The HSE Advisor will be required to travel to LaPrairie worksites throughout Nisku, Lloydminster, Fort McMurray, and other jobsites in the region. The shift is Monday to Friday from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm, with overtime as needed.

Requirements

Minimum of 2-3 years relevant field safety experience.
NCSO Professional certification, or equivalent.
Experience with the WCB process and claims management.
Experience and proven record in participation of safety management processes (e.g. safety committees, working groups, heavy industrial auditing and inspection experience).
Hold a valid drivers’ license.
Able to work effectively with people of all levels including management, employees, and contractors.
Highly organized with attention to detail.
Able to manage multiple priorities and adapt to fast-changing situations.
Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
Strong leadership, coaching, and mentoring skills.
Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information in an efficient and professional matter.
Self-starter, ability to work collaboratively and independently.
Ability to prioritize projects and meet critical deadlines.
Proficient in Microsoft basic suite of programs (i.e., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access).

Nice To Haves

OHS Certification would be an asset but not required.
Familiarity with crane, heavy haul, trucking, mining, oil and gas and construction operations is an asset.

Responsibilities

Serve as the main operations-facing HSE resource for operational management and crews, providing hands-on guidance, coaching, and support to ensure safe, compliant work execution.
Partner directly with operational managers to implement company HSE programs, policies, procedures, and field-level safety practices that support crews in day-to-day operations.
Support HSE onboarding, offboarding, and training programs with an emphasis on field readiness, jobsite expectations, and compliance with regulatory and company requirements.
Work with operational leaders to monitor safety performance, address safety trends, and ensure safety programs and documentation are effective at the jobsite level.
Lead and participate in inspections of offices, shops, jobsites, and other operational locations, providing timely feedback and follow-up to operational managers.
Ensure HSE documentation, records, and reporting are accurate, complete, and useful for supporting field operations and management decision-making.
Track, analyze, and report incidents, infractions, leading and lagging indicators, and inspection results, and work with operational managers to implement corrective actions.
Ensure employee training, certifications, and safety records are maintained and audited within WorkHub to support operational scheduling and field compliance.
Prioritize and coordinate HSE training resources based on operational risk, field needs, and input from operational managers.
Provide HSE support for the company’s drug and alcohol testing program, including field support for post-incident and reasonable suspicion testing.
Establish and support consistent job-site orientation standards in collaboration with operational managers and site leaders.
Oversee PPE programs, including inventory strategy, approval standards, field availability, and budget considerations.
Work with operational managers to ensure company-owned or operated equipment and facilities comply with applicable Provincial and Federal safety and fire regulations and escalate compliance risks to senior leadership.
Provide field-focused leadership and guidance for daily toolbox talks, monthly safety meetings, JHSA meetings, and other operational safety discussions.
Coordinate emergency response planning and field response teams, when required, in partnership with operational managers and site leadership.
Be available to respond to after-hours calls from operations regarding urgent field HSE matters, incidents, investigations, or operational safety support needs.
Support the Senior Manager, Safety Compliance with internal and external HSE audits, including gathering field input, validating operational practices, and following up with managers on required actions.
Take necessary action to ensure safe work practices and procedures are maintained in the field, including stopping unsafe work or ceasing unsafe operating procedures when required.
Oversee and participate in incident, accident, and near-miss investigations, including field interviews, root cause analysis, corrective action planning, and follow-up with operational managers.
Work with operational managers to support injury prevention, monitor WCB-related reports and statistics.
Support compliance with Occupational Health and Safety, environmental, and quality control requirements by working directly with field teams and operational managers across the organization.
Travel regularly to company facilities and field locations to support audits, inspections, investigations, training, coaching, and operational leadership engagement.
Perform other field and operations-related HSE duties as required.
