About The Position

The health room assistant's primary purpose is to serve the health needs of students by documenting and maintaining student health information and providing appropriate, minor care and/or referrals for illnesses, injuries, and medically fragile students. This is a temporary position for the 26-27 school year, working three and a half hours per day, Monday through Friday, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The role reports to the Principal at Ford’s Prairie Elementary.

Requirements

  • Associates’ Degree or 72 quarter college credits or have passed the ETS
  • Ability to obtain a Criminal Justice fingerprint clearance
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, possess awareness (for self and others), listen actively, be patient, incorporate humor/lightheartedness into work, be empathic, possess a growth mindset, and be customer-service oriented
  • Ability to support the District’s vision, mission, and goals including the belief that all students can succeed
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain a positive attitude
  • Successful experience operating standard office equipment including the use of computer office applications (Word processing/Accounting) minimum
  • Ability to maintain timely and professional lines of communication with students, families, staff, and building administration
  • Ability to create organizational systems and to flexibly respond to changing student needs, meet deadlines, and multi-task when necessary
  • Ability to function in a calm, efficient, courteous manner under stress and exercise careful judgment, confidentiality, and tact in the performance of duties
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality, work effectively under pressure, and maintain professional relationships with students, co-workers, and administration
  • Right response trained or willing to be trained upon employment
  • Ability to work independently
  • Knowledge of basic first aid and basic symptoms of communicable and other childhood related diseases.
  • First Aid and CPR trained or be willing to be trained
  • Ability to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodations

Responsibilities

  • Communicates clearly, accurately, concisely, and professionally
  • Administers first aid, medication, and specialized treatment under the direction of the district nurse
  • Assists the district nurse for the purpose of providing various health screenings and training
  • Compiles data for reports (monthly referrals, immunization records, medication logs, inventories, supply orders, etc.)
  • Communicates with parents regarding various health related issues (medication, illness, transportation arrangements, readmission procedures, etc.)
  • Refers students requiring further medical attention for the purpose of providing information to the district nurse
  • Answers and directs phone calls and front door when needed
  • Actively supports and reinforces school/district policies and procedures
  • Acts in an ethical and confidential manner in all aspects of employment
  • Attends trainings as directed or appropriate
  • Other duties as assigned
