About The Position

Grand Erie Public Health (GEPH) is seeking a highly motivated candidate for a position of Health Promoter to be responsible for assessing, promoting, and enhancing health and preventing disease and injuries. This role uses population-health approaches based on health promotion theories and evidence to plan, implement, and evaluate health promotion strategies, ensuring alignment with the Public Health Core Competencies as outlined by the Public Health Agency of Canada. In addition, you will plan and execute ongoing communications campaigns across different program areas within GEPH and assist in coordinating community initiatives. Collaboration with Health Unit staff, community agencies, and partners is essential. This role offers a unique opportunity to make a meaningful difference in public health and community well-being.

Requirements

  • Four-year University degree in a related discipline (Health Education/Health Promotion/Sciences), or equivalent.
  • One to two years' experience to be familiar with scope of position.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary for health promotion practices in the areas of population-health promotion, determinants of health and health equity.
  • Travel between multiple sites may be required.
  • A valid Ontario driver’s license and use of a reliable vehicle.
  • Valid immunization status, as per organizational requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct situational assessments including analysis of data, evidence and environmental scan findings.
  • Develop, implement, evaluate and oversee evidence-based health promotion programs/plans which meet Ontario Public Health standards and requirements.
  • Facilitate community mobilization and build community capacity around shared health priorities.
  • Apply social marketing and other communication principles to the development and implementation and evaluation of health communication strategies.
  • Contributes to the identification and prioritization of areas for improvement within the six dimensions of quality (safe, effective, efficient, timely, person-centred and equitable).
  • Contribute to health-related policy development and advocacy that reflects community needs.
  • Demonstrated ability to engage with colleagues in a systematic approach to quality improvement, including the definition of the purpose and scope; development, testing, and implementation of change ideas; and measurements of reach and impact.
  • Review, develop, and/or acquire health promotion resources.
