About The Position

This position is responsible for performing critical and time sensitive follow up and case management services for newborns and infants with abnormal newborn hearing screening test results. This includes reviewing newborn hearing screening test results, documenting all actions in hearing follow up information system and coordinating follow up activities among and between physicians, hospitals, parents and testing centers to ensure proper timely services and care. This position also provides customer services to doctor, parent and external partner regarding newborn screening results. Other duties include participate in continuous quality improvement projects, review standard operating protocol, as well as education events at hospitals.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of: - Medical terminology - Database management and record keeping. - Audiological testing procedures, test results and implications. - Alternatives/options to standard office operating procedures. - Knowledge of case management and medical terminology related to newborn screening -Advanced critical thinking and independent assessment. -Knowledge of genetics, hearing loss/hearing differences and evidence-based follow-up practices. Knowledge of national recommendations, emerging conditions, and evolving newborn screening technologies. - Performance Management (PM), and Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) and Lean methodologies.
  • Skills in: - Written and verbal communications. - Organization and prioritization. - Analysis and interpretation of test results. - Interactions with medical professionals, healthcare institutions and the general public including active listening and sensitivity to the needs of the other person. - Computer operation.
  • Ability to: - Learn ADHS Newborn Screening Program objectives, standards, follow-up protocols and procedures. - Make informed decisions, work effectively with people under difficult or stressful situations. - Quickly identify not pass hearing screening results, assess risk, coordinate with healthcare providers, and ensure that families receive timely communication and referrals for diagnostic audiology testing. These decisions often must be made under tight time constraints, with significant implications for early diagnosis and treatment - Evaluates audiological test results, integrates evolving clinical guidelines, and determines appropriate next steps to ensure timely and accurate follow-up care. - Gather information effectively via the phone or email in a positive manner and accurately document information. - Work in a team environment required. - Support a diverse multi-cultural workforce that reflects the community, promotes equal opportunity at all levels of public employment, and creates an inclusive work environment that enables all individuals to perform to their fullest potential free from discrimination.
  • Bachelor's degree in a health related field (example: social work, psychology, Healthcare Science, sociology, public health, Speech and language, Audiology).

Responsibilities

  • Conduct timely follow up and case management services for newborns with abnormal hearing screening test results.
  • Analyze hearing screening and diagnostic audiology results to determine appropriate actions for follow up.
  • Coordinate follow up activities among and between physicians, hospitals, parents and testing centers to ensure proper timely services and care.
  • Document all actions in the appropriate patient record and laboratory management information databases to ensure proper documentation of continuous.
  • Prepares reports as needed.
  • Participate in CQI activities including long and short term project planning and review of protocols to maintain efficient and effective program operations.
  • Develops effective monitoring and evaluation procedures for new and ongoing disorders to assure program conformance and integrity.
  • Attends newborn screening partner meetings, follow up team meetings and huddles as well as webinars/ workshops to increase newborn screening best practices and collaborations.
  • Provide customer service to doctor, parents and external partner regarding newborn screening results.
  • Provide assistance to newborn screening education event at hospitals as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned as related to the position.
