About The Position

This position will be responsible for performing critical and time sensitive follow-up and case management services for newborns and infants with abnormal dried blood spot screening test results . This position will serve as the lead for the section, providing follow up case management on complex, time critical and time sensitive test results, training staff on procedures and providing assistance to follow-up specialists with difficult cases. Responsibilities also include his includes analyzing laboratory test results, documenting all actions in laboratory management information system and coordinating follow up activities among and between physicians, hospitals, parents and testing centers to ensure proper timely services and care. This position also provides customer services to doctor, parent and external partner regarding newborn screening results. Other duties include participation in continuous quality improvement projects, review standard operating protocol, as well as education event at hospitals. This position will be responsible for other duties include performing quality assurance reviews , assistance with development of SOPs for the section.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of medical terminology
  • Knowledge of database management and record keeping.
  • Knowledge of laboratory or audiological testing procedures, test results and implications.
  • Knowledge of alternatives/options to standard office operating procedures.
  • Knowledge of case management and medical terminology related to newborn screening
  • Advanced critical thinking and independent assessment.
  • Knowledge of genetics, metabolic disorders, and evidence-based follow-up practices. Knowledge of national recommendations, emerging conditions, and evolving newborn screening technologies.
  • Knowledge of Performance Management (PM), and Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) and Lean methodologies.
  • Skills in written and verbal communications.
  • Skills in organization and prioritization.
  • Skills in analysis and interpretation of test results.
  • Skills in interactions with medical professionals, healthcare institutions and the general public including active listening and sensitivity to the needs of the other person.
  • Skills in computer operation.
  • Ability to learn ADHS Newborn Screening Program objectives, standards, follow-up protocols and procedures.
  • Ability to make informed decisions, work effectively with people under difficult or stressful situations.
  • Ability to quickly identify abnormal or borderline results, assess risk, coordinate with healthcare providers, and ensure that families receive timely communication and referrals. These decisions often must be made under tight time constraints, with significant implications for early diagnosis and treatment.
  • Ability to evaluates complex laboratory results, integrates evolving clinical guidelines, and determines appropriate next steps to ensure timely and accurate follow-up care.
  • Ability to gather information effectively via the phone or email in a positive manner and accurately document information.
  • Ability to work in a team environment required.

  • Bachelor's degree in a health related field (example: social work, psychology, Healthcare Science, sociology, public health, Nursing).

Responsibilities

  • Conduct timely follow up and case management services for newborns with abnormal dried blood spot screening test results.
  • Analyze laboratory results to determine appropriate actions for follow up.
  • Coordinate follow up activities among and between physicians, hospitals, parents and testing centers to ensure proper timely services and care.
  • Document all actions in the appropriate patient record and laboratory management information databases to ensure proper documentation of continuous.
  • Prepares reports as needed.
  • Participate in CQI activities including long and short term project planning and review of protocols to maintain efficient and effective program operations.
  • Develops effective monitoring and evaluation procedures for new and ongoing disorders to assure program conformance and integrity.
  • Attends newborn screening partner meetings, follow up team meetings and huddles as well as webinars/workshops to increase newborn screening best practices and collaborations.
  • Provide customer service to doctor, parents and external partner regarding newborn screening results.
  • Provide assistance to newborn screening education event at hospitals as needed.
  • Assist with on boarding and training new staff and assisting supervisor as needed
  • Other duties as assigned as related to the position.
