About The Position

The Health Policy Strategist supports the American Academy of Family Physicians' clinical, public health, and health policy priorities by developing and implementing evidence-based programs, educational resources, and physician-facing tools that improve patient, family, and community health. The position plays a key role in advancing grant-funded initiatives through proposal development, project implementation, stakeholder engagement, reporting, and evaluation. Working collaboratively with internal and external partners, the Strategist translates emerging evidence, health policy priorities, and public health principles into practical resources and programs that support family physicians, strengthen care delivery, and advance population health. The role also contributes to project management, clinical education initiatives, program evaluation, and the synthesis and communication of findings, outcomes, and recommendations that inform AAFP priorities and member resources.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in public health, health policy, health sciences, health administration, public administration, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Three (3) or more years of professional experience supporting public health, health care, health policy, population health, program management, or a related field.
  • Knowledge and understanding of health policy, public health, health care delivery, or population health acquired through professional experience, academic training, or a combination of both.
  • Experience contributing to grant proposal development, funding applications, project plans, reports, or other funding-related activities.
  • Experience supporting grant-funded, foundation-funded, government-funded, or commercially funded projects, including project funding proposals, implementation, coordination, reporting, stakeholder engagement, and evaluation.
  • Experience coordinating multiple projects, timelines, and deliverables in a collaborative team environment.
  • Ability to synthesize complex information and communicate effectively through written reports, presentations, summaries, and other avenues of formal or informal communications.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse internal and external stakeholders.

Nice To Haves

  • Graduate-level coursework or an advanced degree in public health, health policy, health administration, public administration, or a related field.
  • Experience working in a health care organization, professional association, nonprofit, academic institution, government agency, or public health setting.
  • Experience with program evaluation, outcomes measurement, or data analysis.
  • Familiarity with scientific evidence reviews, clinical guidelines, preventive services, chronic disease prevention, public health initiatives, or health equity programs.
  • Experience preparing materials for physician leaders, executive leadership, governance groups, funders, or external partners.
  • Other duties as assigned.
