About The Position

The Radiological Controls HP Training Specialist is responsible for the creation and implementation of the Radiological Control Technician (RCT) qualification program (i.e., on-the-job trainings/evaluations (OJT/OJE), oral board evaluations, continuing training programs for RCTs, etc.) and other staff as applicable for training owned by the radiation protection program (i.e., Rad Worker I and Rad Worker II). Training materials should include health physics topics as related to DOE RCT qualification training, company mission, and regulatory requirements set forth in 10CFR835, Occupational radiation Protection and DOE O 458.1, Radiation Protection of the Public and the Environment. This position is also responsible for generating training reports and help ensure employees are aware of upcoming training courses. This position reports to the N3B Training Manager. This position is subject to DOE Order 426.2, Personnel Selection, Training, and Qualification Requirements for DOE Nuclear Facilities, which establishes entry-level requirements to ensure candidates selected for specific positions can successfully perform the requirements of the job.

Requirements

  • Intermediate knowledge of DOE RCT qualification training, 10CFR835, Occupational Radiation Protection, and DOE O 458.1, Radiation Protection of the Public and the Environment.
  • Intermediate knowledge of DOE-STD-1098-2017, Occupational Radiation Protection and DOE-HDBK-1122-2009, Radiological Control Technician Training (Parts 1 through 9).
  • Intermediate knowledge of DOE O 426.2, Personnel Selection, Training, Qualification, and Certification Requirements for DOE Nuclear Facilities.
  • Intermediate knowledge of learning management systems.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in training program development and delivery, preferably at DOE nuclear facilities.
  • Demonstrate methods for identifying regulatory training requirements.
  • Intermediate knowledge and experience leading technical teams as well as working as part of a technical team.
  • Effective interpersonal skills with ability to work/interact effectively and amicably with people from diverse backgrounds and cultures and with diverse personal attributes.
  • Excellent communication skills to effectively convey thoughts clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing to diverse audiences.
  • Ability to train and mentor staff to higher levels of performance.
  • Level of language skills, mathematical skills, communication skills, reasoning ability and computer skills necessary to perform essential functions of the job.
  • Must have or be able to acquire and maintain certification through the DOE National Training Center, MIT-111 Basic Instructor Training.
  • Ability to obtain a Q level Department of Energy security clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and/or revise training materials.
  • Deliver training modules and programs to train all levels of RCT and RCT supervisors.
  • Research, develop, and deliver lesson plans for RCT continuing training.
  • Track requalification due dates and communicate with front line supervisors to make sure qualifications remain current.
  • Generate weekly reports of training status to front line supervisors.
  • Identify and deliver refresher-level on-the-job (OJT) training modules for radiological instrumentation.
  • Present lessons learned from around the DOE complex.
  • Must understand DOE RCT qualifications and be able to teach these topics as an SME.
  • Develop training policies, procedures, processes, tools, formats, templates, and examples.
  • Mentor coordinators, other training specialists, and support staff.
  • Manage training records.
  • Work with Apprentices in various established Apprenticeship programs, positions, and levels of experience within those programs.
  • Assist in the development of technical procedures supporting specific programs.
  • Adhere to policies and programs concerning the N3B’s training program.
  • Must have a general knowledge and understanding of the DOE.
  • Must have ability to learn, assimilate and train others on a variety of subjects such as safety, security, quality assurance and/or nuclear operations.
  • Keeping abreast of training and development research: learning theory, motivation theory, and new materials, methods, and techniques.
