About The Position

The Health/Nutrition Coordinator is responsible for ensuring compliance with CACFP (Child and Adult Care Food Program) regulations within Head Start and Early Head Start kitchens. The role involves regular monitoring, data collection, and reporting to ensure that food service operations meet federal, state, and local standards. This position plays a critical role in supporting the nutritional well-being of children enrolled in the program.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required

Nice To Haves

  • Associate's degree in Nutrition, Food Service Management, or a related field preferred.
  • ServSafe or other food safety certification preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct regular on-site visits to Head Start and Early Head Start kitchens to ensure compliance with CACFP regulations.
  • Review meal counts, menus, and attendance records to verify accuracy and compliance with CACFP guidelines.
  • Ensure that kitchen operations, food storage, and meal preparation adhere to health, safety, and sanitation standards.
  • Maintain accurate records of meal counts, daily attendance, and menus as required by CACFP.
  • Collect and organize documentation for audits and reviews.
  • Prepare and submit required reports to the Nutrition Coordinator or Program Manager in a timely manner.
  • Provide training and technical assistance to kitchen staff on CACFP regulations, meal pattern requirements, and proper documentation procedures.
  • Assist in the development of training materials and resources for kitchen staff.
  • Review menus to ensure they meet CACFP nutritional guidelines and meal pattern requirements.
  • Work with the Nutrition Coordinator to implement any necessary menu adjustments to align with program standards.
  • Assist in preparing for CACFP audits and reviews by ensuring that all documentation and records are complete and up-to-date.
  • Participate in on-site audits as required and assist in responding to any findings or recommendations.
  • Communicate regularly with kitchen staff, program managers, and other stakeholders to ensure smooth operations and compliance.
  • Collaborate with the Nutrition Coordinator on initiatives to improve the nutritional quality and efficiency of meal service.
  • Stay updated on changes in CACFP regulations and ensure that all Head Start and Early Head Start kitchens are informed and compliant.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of policies and procedures related to CACFP.
  • Perform additional tasks related to CACFP monitoring and program support as directed by the Program Manager or Nutrition Coordinator.
