About The Position

Matrix Human Services is dedicated to Educating Children, Supporting Families, and Rebuilding Neighborhoods in Detroit. The Health and Nutrition Associate plays a crucial role in implementing high-quality health and nutrition services across various program locations. This position involves running reports, conducting health screenings, managing child health files, and assisting the Health and Nutrition Manager with referrals and parent communication. The associate will also monitor child records to ensure all health and nutrition requirements are met.

Requirements

A minimum of an associate degree from an accredited college in a Health and or Nutrition focus preferred.
At least one year of related experience, with emphasis on training and knowledge of community health and nutrition resources.
One year experience providing direct services to children and families in a health setting.
Knowledgeable of USDA guidelines and Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP).
Ability to work effectively with minimal daily supervision and guidance.
Strong working knowledge of Head Start Program Performance Standards and Michigan Childcare Licensing Regulations.
Effective in an environment of cultural diversity; comfortable in a collaborative, team-based work setting.
Proficient in Microsoft Office.
Skilled in data entry.
Reliable transportation.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

Supports the Health and Nutrition Manager to implement high-quality overall health and nutrition services.
Runs reports and conducts hearing and vision screenings for children and completes timely data entry for all children’s health files.
Assists Health/Nutrition Manager in generating referrals and follow-up of referrals, meeting with parents and/or staff as needed regarding health and nutrition information.
Conducts on-going monitoring of child records and secures missing or expired health and nutrition screenings for child files.
First level of response to all staff for inquiries about the Health and Nutrition content area.
Assists in providing clarification and technical support to all staff in implementing Health and Nutrition policies and procedures.
Ensures that all children are up to date on the appropriate schedule of preventative and primary oral healthcare and follow up care as needed.
Provides information, referrals, and coordinating efforts to link staff and families to appropriate nutrition, health and dental community resources.
Provides health education information and follow-up with parents after screening processes.
Discusses with Family Advocate and other staff any relevant health and nutrition related assessment data.
Assists teaching staff with integration of oral, health and nutrition activities on lesson plans.
Assists with health and nutrition focused activities at the center and child care homes.
Supports classrooms in CACFP requirements.
Ensures that Health/Nutrition materials are in use and supporting the needs of the centers and child care homes.
Supports sites with delivering materials as needed for Health/Nutrition.
Assists in monitoring for compliance of all Health and Safety requirements at the centers and child care homes.
Assists in the planning and implementation of parent trainings/ workshops for health and nutrition.
Assists with arranging screening processes and being involved as needed for Head Start recruitment and enrollment activities.
Models the values of good health and nutrition.
Maintains adequate safeguards for the privacy and confidentiality of information.
Completes required documentation of relevant activities and submits records and reports in a timely and accurate manner.
Stays abreast of current issues and trends by participation in Head Start’s health advisory committee meetings, grantee-sponsored training, center and child care home parent meetings, pre-service and in-service trainings, and other continuing education, career and professional development opportunities.
Reads and reviews regulations and other resources.
Performs other duties as assigned.
