About The Position

The Health Information Manager is responsible for the effective maintenance, security, and availability of patient medical records, as well as the overall administrative and operational management of the Health Information Management (HIM) Department. This role ensures that all medical records are complete, accurate, accessible, and maintained in compliance with facility policies and procedures, Joint Commission (JCAHO) standards, federal and state regulations, and Quality Assessment and Performance Improvement (QAPI) standards. The Health Information Manager serves as a key resource for the facility regarding medical record content, documentation standards, and regulatory requirements. This position oversees daily department operations, ensures timely availability of medical records, and supports organizational compliance and quality initiatives.

Requirements

  • High school diploma required
  • Minimum of one (1) year of supervisory experience
  • Five (5) years of experience as an HIM Manager or in an equivalent role
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Effective organizational and time-management abilities
  • Professional interpersonal skills
  • Analytical and problem-solving capabilities
  • Ability to read, comprehend, and follow written and verbal instructions
  • Proficiency with PC-based computer systems
  • Working knowledge of ICD-10 and CPT coding methodologies
  • Basic understanding of medical and psychiatric diagnoses and conditions

Nice To Haves

  • Additional training in Health Information Management functions preferred, such as: Certified Health Information Management Technician (RHIT) or equivalent certification/training
  • Psychiatric HIM experience strongly preferred
