This role provides clerical support, including scanning duties, in the HIM Department, focusing on data compilation, record verification, file maintenance, and correspondence. Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent - Required
• Critical thinking skills
• Decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision
• Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action

Nice To Haves

• Experience in release of information practices preferred.
• Management/Supervisory experience - Preferred
• Additional Coursework in Medical Transcription, Medical Terminology and Anatomy & Physiology - Preferred

Responsibilities

• Analyzes assembled records for chart completion deficiencies in accordance with regulatory requirements and medical staff rules and regulations.
• Ensures deficiencies are assigned to the appropriate medical staff member and data is entered for tracking and monitoring purposes.
• Reviews documentation and updates or clears deficiencies as appropriate.
• Answers telephone calls and assists visitors (physicians, patients, family members), maintaining confidentiality.
• Retrieves, logs, and prints medical records as requested by physician offices, patients, other hospitals, and other entities.
• Notifies Director of any outstanding records, equipment issues, process concerns, or other job concerns.
• Takes on-call rotation for retrieval of records, fax transfer records, and pulling power of attorney papers.
• Assists with other HIM daily functions.
• Works closely with physicians to ensure they are set up to dictate into the system.
• Trains physicians/APRNs to dictate and e-sign dictation and orders.
• Ensures completion of records for Joint Commission standards.
• Works the hold queue for the dictation system.
• Makes physicians aware of late dictations, updates, and cut-off dictations.
