Gillette Children's is seeking a Health Information Management Specialist I to join their team. This role is 1.0 FTE (40 hrs/wk) and operates Monday - Friday, 8:00 am to 4:30 pm. This position is a hybrid role, combining on-site and remote work. Initial training will be conducted on-site, after which staff will work remotely from home and rotate into the main hospital one day per week. The selected candidate must reside in Minnesota or Wisconsin and be able to work on-site in St. Paul, MN one day per week and as needed. The primary responsibility of this position is to manage all aspects of processing and gathering protected health information (PHI) in all formats. This includes record maintenance, storage and retrieval, scanning, indexing, record analysis, deficiency reporting, and processing requests for records from both internal and external customers. The HIM Specialist supports the patient experience through direct communication with patients and facilities, ensuring the integrity and completeness of all records in preparation for specialized care delivery. This role requires a professional attitude, knowledge of, and adherence to federal, state, and accrediting agency standards. Specific duties may vary based on the work setting or patient population, but all positions require staff to work in highly coordinated teams, focusing on patient conditions and exhibiting exceptional teamwork qualities, including efficient and effective communication.
