About The Position

The Virginia Department of Health (VDH) is dedicated to protecting and promoting the health of Virginians. The VDH is made up of a statewide Central Office in Richmond and 35 local health districts. The Richmond & Henrico County Health Districts (RHHD) are on the forefront of Public Health and Population Health. Our mission is to protect health, champion equity, and partner to address local needs. We accomplish this by exposing and addressing the root causes of health disparities and protecting health through disease prevention and monitoring, providing clinical services, nutrition services, environmental health services, vital records, emergency planning, and building health equity by partnering with communities and working collaboratively across sectors. WE ARE PUBLIC HEALTH! The Richmond and Henrico Health District, part of the Virginia Department of Health is seeking to hire a Health Educator to support the Free From Tobacco Program in Richmond City. This role will help reduce tobacco use by providing education, outreach, quit coaching, and connections to evidence-based cessation resources. The position will support community events, partner engagement, youth and adult prevention activities, and individualized quit planning. This position is funded by the city. Funding is valid until June 30th, 2027, and is eligible for renewal annually thereafter. Employment is contingent on the continued availability of grant or non-general funds.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of common community health problems; public/private health care practices; community organizing, survey methods and use of data and health education principles.
  • Skills in program planning, implementations and evaluation; community assessment and organization; writing reports and program plans; public speaking; managing group dynamics and providing consultation with other professionals and the general public.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • Utilize excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Maintain good working relationships.
  • Work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Execute problem solving skills.
  • Make appropriate decisions and develop program goals and objectives.
  • Evaluate program outcomes, impacts and processes.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with computers and Microsoft Office software.
  • Bilingual.
