About The Position

The University of Nevada, Las Vegas invites applications for Health Educator, UNLV Student Wellness - Student Counseling and Psychology [R0150993] ROLE of the POSITION The Wellness Educator is a student-facing position that maintains a consistent on-site presence within the UNLV Wellness Zone. The Wellness Educator provides walk-in consultation, as needed, to promote holistic wellness education and assists with resource navigation including those available in the Wellness Zone and across campus. The Wellness Educator develops, implements, and evaluates a variety of health and mental health programs and initiatives with a focus on alcohol and other drugs, sexual health, mental health awareness, and general wellness. This specialist will utilize evidence-based programming and assess the measurable impact of such wellness programs and training with an overarching goal of providing students with informed-decision making skills that enhance their personal wellness and academic performance. The Wellness Educator collaborates with campus stakeholders to implement a comprehensive approach to promote the health and safety of students. This position also provides oversight and coordination of prevention programming as well as hiring, training, and supervising student workers, interns, and peer educators. Some evenings and weekends required.

Requirements

  • bachelor’s degree in Health Education/Promotion, Health Communication, Public Health, or a closely related field from an accredited college or university as recognized by the United States Department of Education and/or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) and 1 year of experience in health/wellness education or promotion.
  • Credentials must be obtained prior to the employment start date.
  • All candidates must pass a background screening.
  • utilizing behavior change theories and models in the development and implementation of evidence-based programs and initiatives
  • implementing and evaluating population-based prevention initiatives
  • working with a variety of educational methods including presentations, trainings, small group facilitation, and individual consultation sessions
  • critically reviewing health-related literature and synthesizing such information to develop health promotion initiatives and educational materials for diverse groups of college students
  • maintaining excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
  • solving problems using critical thinking and good judgement
  • managing multiple projects and duties simultaneously
  • professionally managing confidential or sensitive information with professional discretion
  • utilizing health communication and social marketing
  • using computer applications including word processing, spreadsheets, presentation design
  • using social media platforms to promote student wellness
  • collaborating with other professionals in a dynamic team environment
  • using data-driven, program assessment and evaluation to inform future programing.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in Health Education/Promotion, Health Communication, Public Health or closely related field, plus 1 year of professional experience. Experience as a Graduate Assistant may apply.
  • Preference for experience working with college students, mental health knowledge, alcohol and other drugs prevention programming, and proficiency in the use of social media for wellness promotion.
  • CHES preferred.
  • CPR/First Aid Provider and Instructor preferred.
