About The Position

The Health Educator is responsible for the facilitation of wellness workshops, events and activities in KIT and the surrounding community. This position will partner with other Wellness team members, KIT departments, and community health programs to develop and deliver holistic, culturally-honoring wellness programming. The Health Educator should facilitate both one-on-one and group education and intervention programs utilizing motivational interviewing and evidence based practices to help un'ina (patients) meet their health and wellness goals.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Health education/ Promotion, Public Health, Human Services, or related field.
Two (2) years' experience in public health/ health promotion program delivery
Experience with computerized information management systems
Experience working in grant funded programs
Must have a valid Alaska State driver's license and must remain insurable under the Tribe's policy, or obtain within 90 days of hire
Certification as a Tobacco Treatment Specialist from an accredited Tobacco Treatment Education program AND/OR National Commission for Health Bducation Credentialing Certified Health Education Specialist or obtain certification within six (6) months of hire
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required, or obtain within 90 days of hire
State of Alaska Food Worker Card, or obtain within 90 days of hire
Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively
Conducts business in a service-oriented manner that is attentive, pleasant, respectful and kind when dealing with un'ina, visitors, co-workers and others
Proficiency with Microsoft Suite, or obtain training within 90 days of hire
Ability to multi-task, work independently, and meet deadlines
Excellent interpersonal communications, public speaking, and presentation skills
Knowledge of Health lnsurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA)
Ability to design, prepare, deliver and modify course curriculum and associated educational aids
This position is a Covered Position subject to all requirements of the Alaska Barrier Crimes Act (ABCA) and to the Indian Child Protection and Family Violence Prevention Act, (ICPA). ABCA and ICPA requirements apply and must be complied with at all times in order to remain in the position

Responsibilities

Research and maintain library of best practice curricula and resources
Implement and evaluate evidence based chronic disease management, tobacco prevention and cessation, and other common health promotion programs
Provide one-on-one tobacco cessation and/or health coaching for supporting un'ina to reach their behavior change goals
Utilize health promotion theories and models to collaborate with Wellness team to develop, present and evaluate health and wellness education and promotion workshops for un'ina and staff
Effectively utilize the electronic health record to document health and wellness education activities for collaboration with integrated care team
Coordinate health and wellness promotion activities with departments across the Kenaitze Indian Tribe, including but not limited to Behavioral Health, Early Childhood Center, Yaghanen Youth and Elders programs
Participate in care team training and learning activities
Participate with the local tobacco coalition to support the outreach goals as outlined in the Tobacco Prevention and Control Grant, develop and implement evaluation strategies and submit reports as required
Complete monthly reports to include data tracking and program reflection and evaluation for both internal and grant reporting use as required
Maintain knowledge of current health disparities that impacts un'ina
Ensures compliance with Tribal, federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, Tribal policies and TERO ordinance
