About The Position

The Health Educators plays a crucial role in the development of healthy and inclusive social, psychological, emotional and physical First Nation and Metis communities. Utilising the circular model of Holistic health care, the Educator will ensure the cultural and traditional needs of the patient are an equally considered factor when developing their health plan. The Educator is expected to employ an effective combination of SHR Values combined with guidance from Elders, colleagues, personal experience, post secondary education and specialized training to assist clients in their efforts to sustain balance in all aspects of their lives. "Preference for this position will be given to HSAS members in accordance with the terms and conditions of the SAHO/HSAS Collective Agreement"

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a health related discipline
  • Advanced Communication skills
  • Advanced Assessment skills
  • Basic Presentation skills
  • Advanced Counseling skills
  • Advanced Verbal communication skills
  • Ability to intervene appropriately in emergency situations
  • Knowledge of Ministry of Social Services policies, procedures, and regulations
  • Ability to fluently speak & understand Cree, Dene and/or Saulteaux language
  • Ability to demonstrate openness to religious and cultural diversity
  • Knowledge in education and program development, implementation and evaluation
  • Knowledge in wellness and holistic models of health care
  • Knowledge of diverse health issues, culture and traditions
  • Ability to work and communicate in a cross cultural setting
  • Knowledge in applicable policies, procedures and standards
  • Knowledge of crisis and suicide intervention and prevention programs
  • Knowledge of crisis intervention and prevention programs
  • Ability to communicate with clients from diverse cultural backgrounds
  • Knowledge in diverse cultures, values and traditions
  • Registered/eligible for registration with the appropriate licensing body

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Provincial Child Welfare system is an asset
