About The Position

Reporting to the Team Lead/Manager, the Health Educator plays a crucial role in the development of health care plans and ensures the inclusion of social, psychological, emotional and physical health of First Nations and Métis patients. The Educator will provide individuals, families, and groups with the psychosocial support needed to cope with chronic, acute, or terminal illnesses. Services include: advising family members, providing patient education and support, and making referrals to appropriate services. The Educator may also provide care; case management or interventions designed to promote health, support cultural/traditional practices, and address barriers to access healthcare.

Requirements

  • Baccalaureate in a health-related Science
  • Clinical skills
  • Communication, writing, presentation and interpersonal skills
  • Crisis management, suicide intervention and diffusion skills
  • Intermediate - Writing skills
  • Leadership skills
  • Listening, specific counseling and assessment skills
  • Knowledge of Non-Insured Health Benefits and Jordan's Principle
  • Knowledge of all levels of government (fed, prov, mun, First Nations and Métis)
  • Knowledge of Ministry of Social Services policies, procedures, and regulations
  • Ability to show professional maturity and leadership in clinical practice
  • Strong commitment to professional dev. & ongoing learning for self and others
  • Knowledge of the services gov provides in relation to jurisdictional resp.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and ability for competent case management practice
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and have a vehicle available for work
  • Registered/eligible for registration with the appropriate licensing body

  • Preference for this position will be given to HSAS members in accordance with the terms and conditions of the SAHO/HSAS Collective Agreement
  • Preference to candidates who are fluent in Indigenous languages to the region
  • HSAS seniority in the SHA will be considered under the selection criteria
