About The Position

The Health Educator Specialist will function within the Health Education Center, responsible for recruiting, training, scheduling, supervising, and monitoring educational activities. This includes managing human and nonhuman teaching and assessment functions, and communicating with faculty, standardized patients, nurses, and staff. The role assists with technical, professional, and logistical requirements for all education and training activities in the simulated environment, providing educational training services for all aspects of simulation education.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in education, healthcare, medical discipline or related degree and two years of experience in education/training or healthcare environment
  • OR Bachelor’s degree in education, healthcare, medical discipline or related degree and 4 Years of experience in education/training environment or as a standardized patient trainer or relevant experience.
  • Knowledge of techniques and strategies for educating/training adults.
  • Knowledge of training-materials, training-protocol development.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in multi-tasking, problem-solving, and attending to details.
  • Organizational and planning skills.
  • Recruiting/networking skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and in highly collaborative settings.
  • Ability to function well in fast-paced working environment.
  • Ability to work comfortably with diverse populations (e.g., lay people, staff, faculty, students, others).
  • Adaptability and flexibility.
  • Familiarity with basic clinical diagnostic equipment and audio/video recording equipment or willingness and ability to learn.

Responsibilities

  • Recruit, screen, train, and supervise standardized patients for portrayal of standardized “illness scripts” and documentation of student performance.
  • Maintain effective communications with staff, faculty, and students associated with human and nonhuman educational activities.
  • Assist with case and script development.
  • Monitor, Identify, and address areas conducting educational activities for accuracy and quality improvement purposes.
  • Assist with all technical and logistic requirements associated with simulation activities within the HEC.
  • Collaborate with Director of Simulation, Medical Director, other center staff to maintain a record of high-quality service and educational innovation.
  • Responsible for the accuracy and reliability of portrayals, student performance evaluations and feedback during learning/assessment activities.
  • Works with faculty to prepare, conduct, and evaluate human and nonhuman simulation training activities.
  • Collaborate in research, evaluation, and other scholarly projects involving simulation.
