The Health Educator is a registered clinical dietician or licensed health care professional responsible for identifying, developing, and presenting appropriate training and education about health, nutrition, and wellness to meet the needs of the community. Additionally, implementing and overseeing a family-centered childhood obesity program in partnership with our physicians to include patient assessment, nutrition and behavioral plans, physical activity counseling, and follow up. Once employed, training provided to obtain and maintain certifications to be a Child Passenger Safety Technician, a Safe Sitter instructor, and a CPR instructor from American Heart Association. As a team member, may also serve as the primary point of contact for members and visitors, providing a welcoming environment and excellent customer service; organize, implement, and participate as STHS representative to promote services and serve as a resource at special events including Health Fairs, car seat inspection events, fundraisers, and expos; and administrative duties such as answering phones, taking payments, and entering general data. Services are provided primarily during weekdays with occasional evenings and weekends.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Dietetics, or Food and Nutrition.
  • Registered Dietitian (RD) credentialed by Commission on Dietetic Registration.
  • Licensed Dietitian Nutritionist (LDN) by Louisiana Board of Examiners in Dietetics and Nutrition.
  • Computer technology skills to develop presentations (PowerPoint, Video, hands-on demonstrations).
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to provide consistent customer/patient focus showing courtesy and respect.
  • Flexibility and willingness to perform other duties as needed.
  • Ability to work evenings and Saturdays (average 1-2 per month).
  • Ability to coordinate activities and organize work efficiently and in a timely manner.
  • Ability to evaluate and establish priorities.
  • Ability to establish goals and objectives.
  • Ability to perform day-to-day routine activities of the department.
  • Moderate lifting required, depending on course assignment, and transporting required.
