About The Position

The Contra Costa Health Department is offering excellent career opportunities for qualified individuals interested in the Health Education Specialist (HES) position. There is currently one (1) vacancy in the Public Health Clinic Services/School-Based Clinics program based in Concord, CA and includes travel throughout Contra Costa County. Health Education Specialists assist with implementation of educational and health promotion activities for the department; assumes responsibility for educational aspects of assigned department programs; and performs related work as required. Lived experience is considered to be an asset to this position and bilingual candidates are highly sought after. The Public Health Clinic Services/School-Based Clinics program works to increase youth access to medical services at local middle and/or high schools throughout Contra Costa County. The HES provides health education, outreach, organizes day-to-day school-based and mobile clinic operations, and provides client-centered counseling for students at their assigned High School(s). We are looking for someone who: Can communicate effectively verbally and in writing. Has excellent interpersonal skills with a strong ability to work in a team environment Can adapt to varied and changing priorities Can use initiative and sound independent judgment within established guidelines.

Requirements

  • Possession of a valid California Motor Vehicle Operator's License. Out - of - state valid motor vehicle operator's license will be accepted during the application process.
  • Possession of a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in Public Health, Health Services Administration, Social Work, Health Education, Education, Sports Medicine, Kinesiology, Nutrition, or a closely related field.
  • One (1) year of full-time, or its equivalent, experience which included direct responsibility for performing health promotion, health prevention, or community health education work.

Responsibilities

  • Advising staff on health education and preventative principles and techniques
  • Maintaining and distributing health education material to staff and the general public
  • Evaluating and reporting on health education services and educational programs
  • Assisting in directing and coordinating training activities
  • Assisting admin and supervisors in planning, conducting and evaluating the health education and health prevention aspects of departmental programs
  • Assessing community health needs
