About The Position

Under the supervision of the Vice President of Training & Professional Development, the Health Educator Nurse offers certification classes for staff, as well as nutritional trainings for the community. Certification classes include AMAP, G-Tube, Insulin, and BLS. The Nurse Educator also provides support with tuberculosis screenings as needed. The Nurse Educator will be an organized, professional, and motivated individual who can be an effective part of the training team.

Requirements

Associate Degree in Nursing required
Minimum of three (3) years of experience working as a Registered Nurse required
Valid and current NYS RN License
Ability to establish positive working relationships with all valued stakeholders
Demonstrated ability to manage and balance multiple competing priorities while adhering to and meeting deadlines.
Ability to work independently with a strong initiative and vision for agency healthcare needs.
Computer literacy and ability to learn various applications required
Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment with flexibility, keeping others informed and anticipating needs is essential
Strong problem solving and team building skills
Must be efficient, well organized, and have excellent verbal and written communication skills
Ability to teach and present trainings to a group or audience
Valid Driver’s License and satisfy criteria to be a driver for FREE required

Nice To Haves

Bachelor's degree in nursing preferred
Experience working with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities and/or mental health diagnoses preferred
Teaching, instructional, and/or facilitation experience strongly preferred
Experience working in human services non-profit agencies or a similar environment preferred.
Knowledge of OPWDD, DOH, and OMH preferred

Responsibilities

Coordinates and conducts training, certification and supervision of all healthcare related courses/trainings/events including but not limited to AMAP, G-Tube, Insulin, and CPR/BLS at varied times/days/locations to meet the needs of the employees and external stakeholders.
Creates healthcare related courses/trainings and educational plans in collaboration with other teams/departments and determines targeted and on-going education that may be necessary based on the needs of the Agency.
Reviews and approves all AMAP, G-Tube, and Insulin/Diabetic certification paperwork, and updates the Learning Management System to reflect the changes.
Ensures educational material is accurate and reflects the most current and up to date information regarding regulatory and agency requirements.
Collaborates with the Training Department to ensure a high quality of delivery of courses and on-going employee development.
Coordinates site visits to programs to assess effectiveness of education as needed.
Provides support to FREE’s employee tuberculosis screening program and reviews external QuantiFERON’s and chest x-rays as needed.
Conducts AMAP certification, recertification and remediation training for applicable employees as per OPWDD regulatory requirements and ensure utilization of an approved OPWDD curriculum.
Assists Nursing Department with medication practicums (pourings) for those looking to obtain AMAP certification.
Conducts nursing in-service training for agency programs on health assessment, vital signs, individual health needs and treatments, first aid and emergency procedures, diagnosis, incident reporting, and other health-related topics as needed.
Reviews current existing training to determine appropriateness and effectiveness for agency employees when requested and propose learning plans based on that feedback.
Provides expertise and support to the organization and its affiliates with educational regulations as set forth by governing bodies including analysis of and assistance with the interpretation and integration of applicable regulations (where applicable).
Works in conjunction with the Nursing Administration to determine plans of action via benchmark planning to monitor implementation of necessary healthcare related projects.
Assists the Nursing Department to conduct medical chart reviews as requested.
Assists with the investigatory process, reviewing of incident/occurrence reports and internal recordables and provides education and/or re-training of employees as identified by Incident Review Committees.
Participates in the development and delivery of specialized nursing training for new RNs as a supplement to regular agency orientation.
Ensures the overall provision of the highest quality of healthcare education.
Cultivates a work environment that promotes the development of quality individualized services.
Reports all possible violations of individual’s rights promptly, and ensures the proper and timely completion of all incident reports in accordance with New York State regulations and Agency policy.
Participates in internal/external audits/surveys as needed.
Works in collaboration with the Nursing Administration to ensure the most up to date and effective forms are being utilized across the Agency.
Assists with the ongoing review and accuracy of annual nursing in-services to include the most up to date healthcare information.
Ensures that all required documentation (paper and electronic) is completed /processed appropriately, in a timely manner, and meets quality and compliance thresholds.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
