About The Position

The Notah Begay III Foundation (NB3 Foundation), a 501c3 nonprofit organization, is seeking an undergraduate or graduate work-study student for the position of Health Champion. This role will support Native American childhood prevention initiatives, including research and communication. The NB3 Foundation aims to support Native American children’s health by researching interventions, curriculum, and measurement tools, with a specific research focus on physical activity and nutrition. The ideal candidate will be committed, able to work approximately 15-20 hours per week, and possess strong interpersonal skills, working effectively both independently and in a team environment. This is an Off-Campus Work-Study position, requiring a Work-Study Award.

Requirements

  • Must be enrolled in a degree-seeking program at UNM.
  • Must be enrolled at least half-time (6 hours) at UNM for fall and spring semesters (audit hours do not count).
  • Must meet Satisfactory Academic Progress if Work Study.
  • Must have a Work-Study Award.

Nice To Haves

  • Student in a field related to health and wellness, Native American studies, urban planning, food systems, and health policy.
  • Strong interest in Native American health topics.
  • Previous experience and/or background in Native American health topics preferred.
  • Strong communication skills, with emphasis on time-management and online research and analysis.
  • Ability to interact with Notah Begay III Foundation staff in a professional and efficient manner.
  • Self-starter who can work well independently.
  • Detail-oriented.
  • Graduate student or highly motivated undergraduate.

Responsibilities

  • Under the direct supervision of the Director of Evaluation and Research, provide support primarily to the Evaluation and Research team, as well as other organizational departments (NB3FIT, Advancement, Community Empowerment).
  • Create and/or coordinate research on topics in children’s health, which may include the development of issue briefs and identifying research gaps for future research.
  • Provide support for local, regional, and national events.
  • Participate in team meetings, organizational meetings, and appropriate off-site meetings.
  • Undertake special projects assigned throughout the work-study, depending on the student’s skills and interests.
