About The Position

As the Health Care Specialist at Camp Alice Pittenger, you will oversee all aspects of health care for our summer camp program, ensuring the safety and well-being of campers and staff. This role involves administering medications, responding to illnesses and injuries, maintaining accurate medical records, and ensuring camp health policies align with guidance from the local health department, CDC, American Camp Association, and Girl Scouts of the USA. Working closely with the Camp Director, you will play a key role in emergency response, staff training, and maintaining ACA-compliant health and safety standards throughout the season. Room and board are provided for the duration of employment.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 21-years of age
  • Understanding of camp hours and the responsibilities of camp administrative staff
  • Ability to live in a rustic camp environment with limited access to cell phone service and internet
  • CPR/First Aid/AED certification
  • Idaho Food Handlers Card
  • Minimum of Wilderness First Responder
  • Medication Administration/Management certification

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with children; summer camp experience, preferred
  • Member of the Association of Camp Nursing, preferred
  • EMT, CNA, RN, or MD preferred
  • Youth Mental Health First Aid, preferred
  • Adult Mental Health First Aid, preferred

Responsibilities

  • Oversee implementation of health care policies and procedures in compliance with American Camp Association accreditation standards
  • Collaborate with the Camp Director on key camp decisions, including emergency and crisis response
  • Oversee implementation of the Communicable Disease Plan
  • Oversee staff training on health care policies and procedures
  • Provide care for ill and injured campers and staff
  • Collect camper medications at check-in, review medical history and allergies, and maintain medications throughout the session; dispense medications at designated times as directed on camper health forms; return medications to parents at check-out
  • Maintain accurate medical records using CampDoc software, including documentation of medications administered and first aid provided
  • Communicate with parents/guardians regarding camper health issues
  • Complete incident reports as required
  • Maintain necessary medical supplies, including first aid kits
  • Perform other duties as assigned
