About The Position

This position delivers resident-focused care within the full scope of practice of a HCA, in a home-like environment, respecting the individuality and dignity of each resident/family and co-workers. This includes the completion of various duties to ensure the well-being of residents.

Requirements

  • Health Care Aide certificate (or equivalent) from an accredited institution
  • CPR/BCLS for healthcare providers required
  • Active enrollment in the Alberta Health Care Aide Directory
  • Clear police information check, with the vulnerable sector, dated within the last 6 months
  • Demonstrated skills in communication, teamwork, organization, and customer service, with a high attention to detail and thoroughness and a demonstrated knowledge and commitment to person-centered care
  • Awareness of accident and injury prevention, hazard identification and control; adherence to safe work practices and procedures, and the ability to problem solve through critical thinking and self-education
  • Physically and mentally fit to perform the duties of the position (may be required to lift, move, push, or pull objects weighing up to 75 pounds)
  • Ability to work on his/her feet for a complete shift while constantly bending, stretching, walking, lifting, or moving things

Responsibilities

  • Assist residents with medication administration, bathing, grooming, dressing, applying treatment creams, assisting in therapeutic activities, and ensure daily the neatness of residents’ rooms, furniture, clothes closets, mobility devices, tub/washrooms, utility rooms, and kitchen/serveries.
  • Participate in all aspects of personal resident care to ensure the physical, psychological, social, and spiritual needs of each resident/family are met and so that the resident is as independent as possible.
  • Deliver effective and efficient care under the direction of the supervisor that promotes resident/family choice and acknowledges the resident strengths, limitations, as well as their need for safety and the safety of another resident/family and staff.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary committee work as required: Care conferences, as directed; Unit meetings, general staff meetings, and HCA meetings.
  • Participate in continuing education to ensure skills and abilities are maintained and enhanced.
  • Participate in continuous quality improvement of the care unit and associated care services by ongoing collection and documentation of data.
