About The Position

As a Health Care Aide, you will work as a member of the care team, collaborating on the delivery of resident care. The Health Care Aide, under the supervision of a Licensed Practical Nurse, applies their knowledge and skills in order to provide a wide variety of safe and thorough basic care and services to residents. Requirements

  • Graduate of Health Care Aide program (or provincial equivalent certificate program with minimum 500 hours of theory & practicum).
  • Experience working with seniors in the community health services setting.
  • Must possess strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Demonstrated organizational and time management skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and customer focus skills.
  • Must have demonstrated sound skills and knowledge of providing personal care duties.
  • Ability to perform tasks that are necessary for the position, e.g. lifting/transferring clients.
  • Must provide a complete and current (within six months) Vulnerable Sector Check (including a Criminal Background Check) or be willing to obtain one.

Nice To Haves

  • Current Basic Cardiac Life Support and First Aid certification recommended.

Responsibilities

  • Work to your full scope of practice and provide resident focused care.
  • Observe residents for any changes in resident status when tub bathing, washing, cleaning, dressing, and changing residents.
  • Report any changes in the resident’s condition to the Staff Nurse as soon as possible.
  • Participate in the development of the Nursing Care Plan (NCP) by sharing observations, information and knowledge of the needs and strengths of the residents.
  • Share this information with other members of the nursing team and the health care team (Collaborative Care Model) so that the plan addresses the resident’s individual needs in a holistic way (Philosophy of Caring/Wellness Model).
  • Assist and accompany residents in moving about the community with walking as well as participate in functions.
  • Report any unsafe activities that may cause harm or injure a resident.
