About The Position

The Health Care Aide (HCA) plays a vital role within the care team, providing support to residents, their families, and visitors in a home-like environment. This role emphasizes enabling independence, choice, dignity, privacy, and individuality for residents. The HCA assists residents with personal care, social support, and participation in recreation and leisure activities. Effective communication skills, including reading, writing, clear verbal articulation, and active listening, are essential for implementing recommendations and developing plans in accordance with Covenant Care's protocols and applicable legislation. Maintaining absolute confidentiality of sensitive information is paramount. The position is responsible for providing care that respects resident choice, dignity, privacy, independence, culture, spirituality, and individuality, ensuring service aligns with Covenant Care's standards. A close working relationship with the interdisciplinary team and consistent promotion of teamwork and cooperation are expected. The HCA will also provide support to residents and their families during their end-of-life journey, ensuring dignity, privacy, respect, and individuality. This role requires modeling the organization's mission, vision, and values, and collaborating effectively as a professional team player.

Requirements

  • Minimum Grade 12 required
  • Completed recognized Health Care Aide Certificate
  • Proof of enrollment in the Alberta Health Care Aide Directory
  • Ability to speak, read and write English fluently
  • Must be vaccinated against all required communicable diseases under Covenant Care’s OHS policy
  • Must provide a criminal record check not older than 3 months ahead of your commencement date.

Nice To Haves

  • Dementia education an asset
  • 6 months to 1 year of experience in an Assisted Living/Continuing Care facility preferred
  • Ability to speak French an asset
  • Computer skills an asset

Responsibilities

  • Provides support to residents, their family and visitors in a home-like environment that enables independence, choice, dignity, privacy and individuality.
  • Assists residents as necessary in areas of personal care, social support, and assisting residents to participate in recreation and leisure activities.
  • Communicates effectively in all forms (reading, writing, clear verbal articulation and active listening) to implement recommendations and develop plans and procedures in accordance with Covenant Care’s protocol and also with applicable legislation.
  • Maintains absolute confidentiality of information learned and shared.
  • Provides resident care in a way that acknowledges resident choice, dignity, privacy, independence, culture, spirituality and individuality inclusive of a home-like environment.
  • Ensures service is provided in a manner reflective of Covenant Care’s standards.
  • Maintains a close working relationship with the interdisciplinary team.
  • Consistently promotes teamwork and cooperation within the team.
  • Ensures that residents receive quality care and service according to Covenant Care policies and procedures.
  • Provides support to residents, their family and visitors during the resident’s end of life journey that will enable choice, dignity, privacy, respect and individuality.
  • Models the organization's mission, vision, and values, consistently representing Covenant professionally and positively.
  • Collaborates effectively as a professional team player, supporting the achievement of Covenant’s Mission, Vision, and Values.
