About The Position

Reporting directly to the Director of Care, the Health Care Aide (HCA) is a regulated member of the interprofessional health care team who provides ongoing client care. The HCA observes, monitors and reports on client status/condition including changes in physical and emotional status. The HCA ensures that changes in client status are reported to the Registered Nurse (RN) and/or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). This position delivers prescribed medications accurately as per policy and procedure. In keeping with Carewest’s Frame of Reference, Philosophy of Care and Carewest policies this position maintains professional and ethical standards at all times. Responsible for other related duties as required. EQuaL (Enabling Quality of Life) – for adults aged 18 to 64 who have disabilities related to a disease or condition, such as multiple sclerosis or a brain injury, currently requiring the full-time support of a continuing care centre. Chronic Complex Care – for adults living with a complex disease or life-threatening illness. The prime populations are adults on hemodialysis or peritoneal dialysis, as well as people who need specialized respiratory support.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent is required, plus graduation from an Alberta Government recognized Health Care Aide program.
  • Ability to read, write and communicate effectively in English is required.
  • Must be physically capable of managing the frequent lifting, transferring and repositioning of clients.
  • Active and current registration with CLHA required.

  • Related experience in a health care facility is an asset.
  • Program specific training/experience is an asset.
