The Health Care Aide (HCA) position supports residents, their families, and visitors in a home-like environment, promoting independence, choice, dignity, privacy, and individuality. This role involves assisting residents with personal care, social support, and participation in recreation and leisure activities. Effective communication skills (reading, writing, verbal, and active listening) are essential for implementing recommendations and developing plans in accordance with Covenant Care’s protocols and applicable legislation. Maintaining absolute confidentiality of sensitive information is expected. The HCA provides resident care that respects resident choice, dignity, privacy, independence, culture, spirituality, and individuality, ensuring services reflect Covenant Care’s standards. A close working relationship with the interdisciplinary team is maintained, promoting teamwork and cooperation. The position ensures residents receive quality care and service according to policies and procedures, and provides support during the resident’s end-of-life journey, enabling choice, dignity, privacy, respect, and individuality. The role requires modeling the organization's mission, vision, and values, and collaborating effectively as a professional team player.

Requirements

Minimum Grade 12 required
Completed recognized Health Care Aide Certificate
Proof of enrollment in the Alberta Health Care Aide Directory
Ability to speak, read and write English fluently
This position requires you to be vaccinated against all required communicable diseases under Covenant Care’s OHS policy
All employees new to Covenant Care must provide a criminal record check not older than 3 months ahead of your commencement date.

Nice To Haves

Dementia education an asset
6 months to 1 year of experience in an Assisted Living/Continuing Care facility preferred
Ability to speak French an asset
Computer skills an asset

Responsibilities

Provides support to residents, their family and visitors in a home-like environment that enables independence, choice, dignity, privacy and individuality.
Assists residents as necessary in areas of personal care, social support, and assisting residents to participate in recreation and leisure activities.
Communicates effectively in all forms (reading, writing, clear verbal articulation and active listening) to implement recommendations and develop plans and procedures in accordance with Covenant Care’s protocol and also with applicable legislation.
Maintains absolute confidentiality of sensitive information.
Provides resident care in a way that acknowledges resident choice, dignity, privacy, independence, culture, spirituality and individuality inclusive of a home-like environment.
Ensures service is provided in a manner reflective of Covenant Care’s standards.
Maintains a close working relationship with the interdisciplinary team.
Consistently promotes teamwork and cooperation within the team.
Ensures that residents receive quality care and service according to Covenant Care policies and procedures.
Provides support to residents, their family and visitors during the resident’s end of life journey that will enable choice, dignity, privacy, respect and individuality.
Models the organization's mission, vision, and values, consistently representing Covenant professionally and positively.
Collaborates effectively as a professional team player, supporting the achievement of Covenant’s Mission, Vision, and Values.
