About The Position

The Uncertified (Untrained) Health Care Aide (UHCA) may work in a variety of settings including community (clients’ homes, assisted/supportive living), health care centers, and hospitals assisting patients/residents/clients with activities of daily living with the goal of supporting independence while providing care and treatment. The job specification sets out the overall general duties and responsibilities of the UHCA and recognizes that responsibilities may vary dependent on the setting where the UHCA works. Under the general supervision of the Manager, RN, RPN, and/or LPN, the UHCA works with all members of the health care team including certified Health Care Aides (certified HCAs) assisting with patient/ resident/client care and providing basic supportive care as directed. The UHCA demonstrates a commitment to the vision, values, goals, and objectives of the region/site/program. Please note that weekend work is a requirement of the Home Care Program. It is an expectation that as a casual employee you must be available for two (2) shifts per month, and do not decline more than three (3) shifts within your availability in a period of 90 calendar days.

Requirements

  • Minimum Grade 10 education, Manitoba standards, required.
  • 7-day Health Care Support Worker micro-credential from Assiniboine Community College, Red River College Polytechnic, or University College of the North OR a Health Service Delivery Organization approved course that meets the minimum requirement of the 7-day micro-credential as determined by the Employer.
  • Valid Manitoba Class 5 driver’s license, access to a reliable vehicle, and/or willingness to travel year-round (for community settings).
  • General skills and ability to perform all tasks and responsibilities relevant to the duties of the position.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize assigned workload.
  • Ability to recognize and pursue self-development opportunities.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to respond to a variety of simultaneous demands.
  • Ability to perform as a team member and seek assistance as required.
  • Effective command of the English language (both oral and written).
  • Current satisfactory Criminal Records Check (including Vulnerable Sector Search), Child Abuse Registry Check and Adult Abuse Registry Check as conditions of employment.
  • Not permitted to hold two or more positions across the WRHA legal entity that combine to equal more than 1.0 EFT.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience providing care to the elderly and/or individuals with physical or cognitive impairments is preferred.
  • May be required to speak, read and write French at the predetermined linguistic level.
  • Preference will be given to those applicants competent in an Indigenous language and/or knowledge in Indigenous customs, traditions, and values.
