About The Position

The Columbia Public School District is seeking a Health Assistant. This is a part-time position (.5 FTE) that is not eligible for benefits. The Health Assistant will be responsible for providing first aid, administering medication, managing student health records, and communicating effectively with students, parents, and teachers. The role requires adherence to Board policies and procedures and participation in annual First Aid Provider training, Emergency First Aid training in the first year, and CPR/AED certification.

Requirements

  • Must be organized
  • Must be able to prioritize work load
  • Computer literate
  • Read, comprehend, and produce written and oral instructions, correspondence, and memos
  • Communicate one-on-one and in small groups
  • Demonstrate excellent verbal and non-verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrate excellent listening skills
  • Add, subtract multiply and divide using units of American money, weight, volume and distance.
  • Understand and follow verbal and written instructions
  • Solve problems involving concrete variables within standardized situations.
  • Perform basic computer functions such as word processing and internet use.
  • Establish and maintain effective relationships with students, colleagues, and parents
  • Perform multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Safeguard confidential medical information.
  • Ability to Stand, stoop, bend and kneel
  • Ability to Read handwritten or printed material
  • Frequently lift up to 10 pounds
  • Grasp, hold, and demonstrate finger dexterity
  • Reach and raise arms above shoulders and head
  • Must have both close and distance vision.
  • Consistent and regular attendance is an essential function of this position.

Responsibilities

  • Providing first aid, as trained by the Health Services staff
  • Administering medication
  • Communicating effectively with others (students, parents, teachers, etc.)
  • Managing student health records, as trained by Health Services staff
  • Understanding and adhering to Board policies and procedures
  • Performing other duties as requested by the school nurse
  • Participate in the annual First Aid Provider training, provided at the beginning of each school year.
  • Participate in Emergency First Aid training the first year of employment.
  • Participate in CPR/AED certification.
  • Perform other duties as necessary to support the mission and vision of Columbia Public School District.
