About The Position

The YMCA of Southern Nevada is looking for a Health and Wellness Coordinator. Under the direction of the Health and Wellness Director, you will provide support in managing wellness programs for members. You will promote and implement relationship building in programming, training, and supervision. This is a part-time position at the Heinrich YMCA requiring 12 hours per week.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university; or one to two years’ related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
  • Proficiency with standard business operations software and Microsoft office.
  • American Red Cross CPR/ First Aid for Professional Rescuers Certification within 30 days of hire.

Nice To Haves

  • Group fitness and/or personal training certification preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Supports the management of all Wellness Programs at the branch with an emphasis on increasing the revenue streams of personal training and small group programs.
  • Management of group classes, fitness assessments, equipment orientations, and special events.
  • Supports the department director with coordination of the annual department budget and takes appropriate action to maintain fiscal soundness of the association and integrity of the department.
  • Reviews and evaluates the class attendance, program enrollment, and services provided by the wellness department and communicates findings to their supervisor.
  • Develops new and innovative programs in the area of health & wellness, while targeting youth, adults, seniors, and families with an emphasis on increased membership retention.
  • Conducts wellness classes, programs, and training of staff and volunteers of the department in the performance of their respective responsibilities.
  • Supervises the Wellness Center by being attentive to all participants to protect their safety.
  • Knows and enforces facility rules and requires suitable conduct from participants at all times.
  • Cleans fitness equipment and maintains the cleanliness of the wellness area.
  • Instructs members and participants on safe exercise techniques including but not limited to warm-up and stretching progression, aerobic conditioning, strength training, proper use of Center equipment, and workout progression.
  • Promotes and implements relationship building in all programming, training, and supervision.
  • Builds and maintains a high standard of customer service for all members.
  • Coordinates special events including Healthy Kids Day, senior health fairs, family events, etc.
  • Performs site supervisor/building supervisor responsibilities during tournaments and special events.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.
  • Follows employees and volunteers screening requirements and use screening instruments to screen for abuse risk.
  • Provides employees and volunteers with on-going supervision and training related to abuse risk.
  • Provides employees and volunteers with regular feedback regarding their boundaries with youth.
  • Requires employees and volunteers to adhere to policies and procedures related to abuse.
  • Respond quickly to policy and procedure violations using the organization’s progressive disciplinary procedures.
  • Responds seriously and confidentially to reports of suspicious and inappropriate behaviors.
  • Follows mandated reporting requirements.
  • Communicates to all employees and volunteers the organization’s commitment to protect their consumers from abuse.
  • Reports essential abuse risk management information to their supervisor, executive director, or human resources.
  • Supervises 5-20 Wellness Staff.
  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
  • Responsibilities include interviewing and training volunteers; planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees and volunteers; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
  • Provide safe, secure and educational wellness experience to membership to enhance the image of the YMCA in the community.
  • Impact the overall effectiveness of the association's implementation of the YMCA mission to strengthen community through healthy living.
  • Provide membership with quality services, programs, and leadership in the wellness area thus helping the association to achieve higher levels of membership retention.
