About The Position

We are looking for a Health and Safety Superintendent to lead the Health, Safety and Training strategy and implementation plan for a remote greenfield mining project. This is a newly created leadership role supporting safe project delivery, contractor performance and the development of strong Health and Safety capability for the future operation. This is a great opportunity for a seasoned Health and Safety leader to influence risk management, build capability and partner across project, engineering, construction, environment and communities teams. Reporting to the HSES Manager and working within Rio Tinto Projects, you will be: Leading a team of professionals responsible for Health, Safety and Training, while coaching and supporting their development. Adapting project strategies, objectives and context into a clear Health and Safety implementation plan. Managing complex project risks, impacts, mitigations and improvement opportunities across the project and associated infrastructure. Ensuring project Health, Safety and Training standards are understood, embedded, monitored and reported across planning, construction and operations. Partnering with engineering and construction teams to design and deliver mitigation strategies and programmes aligned with obligations, schedule and budget. Maintaining productive relationships with project leadership, contractors, external authorities, communities and internal HSES and CSP areas of expertise. Managing third-party service contracts that support Health, Safety and Training delivery. Fostering strong HSSEC capability and integrated ways of working across the project, including close collaboration with Environment and Communities teams.

Requirements

  • A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team, with genuine care for people and their wellbeing.
  • Extensive Health and Safety experience in large-scale projects, mining, heavy industry and/or construction environments, including complex project execution strategies.
  • Proven people leadership experience, with the ability to coach, develop and lead diversified teams in high-delivery environments.
  • Strong judgement, analytical thinking and the ability to anticipate risks, influence stakeholders and act before issues escalate.
  • Relevant education or experience in Safety, Health and/or Environment; a health and safety certificate, bachelor’s or master’s degree is preferred, and CRSP designation is an asset.
  • Experience working in remote locations or FIFO environments, with the ability to collaborate effectively with local, national and regional stakeholder groups.
  • Fluency in written and spoken French and basic knowledge of English.
