About The Position

Anthropic is seeking a Health and Safety Specialist to manage the daily H&S operations at its San Francisco headquarters and other US locations. This role is crucial for scaling Anthropic's health and safety programs, responding to incidents, and serving as the primary point of contact for employees regarding H&S matters. The ideal candidate will have extensive hands-on experience in occupational health and safety, including conducting inspections, investigating incidents, managing cases, supporting committees, and promoting employee engagement in safety programs. This is a tactical, execution-focused position that will complement the EHS Lead's strategic responsibilities and specialized work in areas like biolabs and data centers. Collaboration with the EHS Lead, Workplace, Security, HR, Legal teams, and peers in the Global Safety and Intelligence Services team will be essential.

Requirements

7+ years of experience in a similar hands-on H&S role, with experience operating H&S programs day-to-day.
Strong working knowledge of US federal OSHA and California Title 8 (Cal/OSHA) requirements.
Ability to act as the H&S expert in meetings, translating regulatory requirements into clear decisions, and asserting safety when necessary.
Passion for workplace H&S and the ability to convey that energy to colleagues.
Skill in motivating and persuading others to collaborate, take action, and engage with H&S programs.
Resilience and adaptability in fast-paced, dynamic environments, with the ability to manage ambiguity and prioritize tasks.
Proficiency in writing clear and useful SOPs, playbooks, and program documents.
Ability to create engaging presentations and training content.
Hands-on experience with software tools for H&S incident reporting, risk assessment, learning management, and related functions.

Nice To Haves

Familiarity with other US states' OSHA requirements (e.g., Washington, New York).
A Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety or a related H&S field.
Certifications such as CSP, ASP/GSP, CIH, or COHN, or comparable US-recognized H&S/occupational-health credentials.
Familiarity with ISO 45001 (Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems).
Background in occupational health, fire safety, or industrial hygiene.
Experience operating H&S programs across multiple US states or sites.
Excellent computer skills, with the ability to quickly learn and use new applications and systems.

Responsibilities

Conduct regular onsite H&S work at the San Francisco office, including inspections, hazard and risk assessments, ergonomics program activities, and follow-up on findings.
Investigate workplace incidents, injuries, and illnesses, and manage occupational health cases from reporting through return-to-work and closure, coordinating with occupational health providers, HR, and Legal.
Oversee OSHA recordkeeping for US sites, including the annual 300/300A process.
Serve as the primary H&S contact for employees and partners in the San Francisco office.
Facilitate and support the health and safety committee and volunteer emergency response team in San Francisco, including meetings, drills, and action item follow-through.
Support similar H&S committee and emergency response team activities at other US sites.
Deliver and coordinate H&S training across US offices, maintaining the training calendar, conducting sessions, and partnering with vendors and internal teams.
Manage H&S vendor relationships (occupational health, ergonomics, training, audit).
Engage with landlords, building management, and contractors to ensure shared environments are safe and meet company standards.
Maintain accurate and current H&S documentation, registers, and reporting systems.
Contribute to broader H&S programs being developed by the EHS Lead by providing field insights, piloting new programs in San Francisco, and offering tactical expertise for standards development.
