About The Position

This position provides first aid response, emergency first aid, and follow up care for acute and ongoing occupational injuries or illnesses. Oversee and coordinate medical care of injured workers. Proactively serve as liaison between injured workers, medical providers, and claims adjusters to promote early return to work. The Health and Safety Specialist will review, evaluate, and analyze work environments and design programs and procedures to control, eliminate, and prevent occupational disease or injury caused by chemical, physical, biological, or ergonomic factors. May conduct inspections and enforce adherence to laws, regulations, or corporate safety policies governing the health and safety of employees.

Requirements

  • EMT, EMT-P, LPN or RN
  • CPR / First Aid Certified
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office software: Excel, Word, Outlook
  • Must be resourceful, diligent and with good moral character

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's Degree in Occupational Health, Safety or Related Field
  • Two years' experience working in a manufacturing environment as an EMT, EMT-P or LPN
  • Capable of effectively working with minimal supervision

Responsibilities

  • Provide emergency first response/triage care, first aid treatment, and over-the-counter medications for employees as needed.
  • Actively promote safety throughout the facility by identifying, mitigating, or suspending activities that pose threats to workers' health or safety.
  • Investigate accidents to identify causes or to determine how such accidents might be prevented in the future and recommend measures to help protect workers from potentially hazardous work methods, processes, or materials.
  • File First Report of Injury (FROI), document worker progress, and work closely with claims adjuster and medical providers to properly manage workers compensation claim.
  • Record vital signs and medical information. Maintain accurate workers compensation claim files and/or first aid files for injured workers.
  • Evaluate injured workers and determine fitness for duty to determine whether medical care beyond first aid is required and refer to the proper medical professional.
  • Coordinate claim management activities with the Workers Compensation Coordinator.
  • Collaborate with healthcare professionals to plan or provide treatment for occupational illnesses or injuries.
  • Inspect or evaluate workplace environments, equipment, or practices to ensure compliance with safety standards and government regulations.
  • Conduct safety training or education programs and demonstrate the use of safety equipment.
  • Collaborate with engineers, physicians, industrial hygienists, or other experts to institute control or remedial measures for hazardous or potentially hazardous conditions or equipment.
  • Participate in new employee orientation by developing and presenting general safety and other presentations.
  • Coordinate "right-to-know" programs regarding hazardous chemicals or other substances.
  • Maintain or update emergency response plans or procedures.
  • Inspect specified areas to ensure the presence of fire prevention equipment, safety equipment, or first-aid supplies.
  • Administer, develop or maintain hygiene programs, such as noise surveys, continuous atmosphere monitoring, ventilation surveys, or asbestos management plants.
  • Administer the investigating or monitoring of the adequacy of ventilation, exhaust equipment, lighting, or other conditions that could affect employee health, comfort, or performance.
  • Administer the collection of samples of hazardous materials or arrange for sample collection.
  • Maintain inventories of hazardous materials or hazardous waste, using waste tracking systems to ensure that materials are handled properly.
  • Oversee or conduct audits at hazardous waste sites or industrial sites or participate in hazardous waste site investigations.
  • Prompt and regular attendance at an assigned work location.
  • Interact with employees in an appropriate manner.
  • Availability on site to confer with staff members with whom the employee must interact on a regular basis.
  • Communicate via email and prepare reports.
  • Review and analyze data and information concerning workers compensation.
  • Plan, prioritize and monitor for safety throughout the facilities.
  • Complete assigned tasks/projects in a timely manner.
