About The Position

The AMER Health and Safety US West Lead is responsible for providing strategic support of activities across the functional hubs – US West, US Central and Canada. S/he is accountable for monitoring and reporting compliance and performance with the Global H&S strategy on monthly and quarterly basis, translating the objectives into operational delivery plan(s). Accountable for H&S consultants monitoring of projects against their scope of service, working collaboratively with EQIX project teams and our delivery partners, vendors and EQIX Operations team(s) pre and post RFS. Manages and builds relationship with Senior leadership within the region. Acts as a subject matter expert (SME) for all construction H&S programme related subjects, with overall ownership of compliance of those subjects within the region. As the AMER Health and Safety US West Lead, you will be responsible for delivering the global H&S strategy, GDC standards Health & Safety management within the responsible Equinix AMER construction projects. Ensure high standards for Health Safety and Environmental management are implemented, supervised and reported on throughout the Global Design & Construction portfolio. SME for Construction related Health & Safety matters. The applicant must possess a high level of professional integrity and be a team player, who is motivated, self-aware and effective in high-risk, pressured environments.

Requirements

  • BSc / MSc degree in Occupational Safety and Health, Engineering, or equivalent education (Level 6 Diploma) and/or operational experience
  • 10+ years of construction, developer, or high-risk industry H&S experience is preferred
  • Recognized HSE professional qualifications and professional memberships appropriate for the role
  • Familiar with standard H&S concepts, practices, and procedures across a regional portfolio
  • Proven ability to work through other functions and personnel to deliver goals and objectives in a matrix organisational structure
  • Strong communication and presentation skills required, with ability to influence and drive new ideas at the executive level.
  • Self-starter with demonstrable experience of ensuring policy and standards are enforced
  • Competent in the use of MS tools
  • Excellent knowledge of OSHA health and safety legislation, guidance, and other industry requirements applied in Canada
  • Business level English is required

Responsibilities

  • Position, promote and protect the Equinix brand in relation to health & safety, enabling the full roll out the strategic ‘Create, Develop, Achieve, Inspire’ pillars and reporting on their compliance in all respects
  • Supports the AMER Regional Director, Construction Health & Safety in the development and delivery of the functional strategic objectives, actions and performance metrics
  • Accountable for ensuring the functional purpose of ‘Lead, Enable, Simplify’ is embedded across the responsible AMER region
  • Enable the assessment, management, and mitigation of risk in accordance with regulation and best practice
  • Support the regional H&S training plan and support the roll out of modules
  • Determines time bound corrective action with hubs construction leads and ensures they are satisfactorily met
  • Lead and integrate H&S across the functional elements of the Commercial, Design and Construction in responsible AMER region, driving a culture of prevention and resilience
  • Assist with the development, management and implementation of agreed processes and procedures through the Equinix GDC business, inc. Supply chain partners and vendors in accordance with GDC policy, principles, and standards
  • Primary point of contact with regulatory and enforcing authorities in each hub, for and on behalf of the responsible AMER region
  • Works collaboratively with the Operations Compliance function in the pursuit of continuous improvement and seamless handover pre / post RFS.
  • Engagement & influence of identified business and industry stakeholders inc. Key clients and subsidiaries
  • Socializes change with peers or other stakeholders
  • Timely and effective escalation of non-compliance, incidents and any other situation that has the likelihood of causing reputational damage to Equinix, its customers and or 3rd parties
  • Oversees coordination of site level compliance audits (internal and external)
  • Ownership of hub/country/site specific certification, as required
  • Identifies processes to be audited based on set criteria and controls
  • Defines and maintains audit criteria and controls based on industry and Equinix updates and best practices
  • Reports any findings to management and relevant stakeholders, providing guidance with audit findings, escalation and mitigation within the region / hub / country
  • Responsible for audit vendor management as assigned
