About The Position

The Health & Safety Coordinator is responsible for coordinating and maintaining Iron Core Mechanical Ltd.’s health and safety program across shop, field, and client-site operations. This position supports hazard assessments, inspections, incident investigations, employee training, COR requirements, and contractor-prequalification systems. The ideal candidate will be organized, confident, and comfortable working directly with tradespeople and supervisors. They will take a practical approach to safety while holding employees accountable to company, client, and regulatory requirements.

Requirements

  • National Construction Safety Officer designation required or actively working toward completion.
  • Experience administering an ACSA health and safety program and supporting COR maintenance and audits.
  • Experience using SiteDocs or a comparable digital safety-management system.
  • Experience maintaining ISNetworld contractor compliance and client-prequalification requirements.
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills, including tracking, reporting, and analyzing safety information.
  • Current Standard First Aid with CPR/AED certification.
  • Working knowledge of Alberta occupational health and safety legislation and WCB-Alberta requirements.
  • CSTS and WHMIS required or must be obtained upon hire.
  • Valid Class 5 Alberta Driver’s Licence with a clean driving record required.
  • Strong communication, documentation, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to travel to client sites and work in active shop, construction, and industrial environments.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous safety experience in industrial construction, mechanical contracting, fabrication, manufacturing, or plant maintenance preferred.
  • Familiarity with pressure equipment, welding, process piping, boilers, refrigeration, and industrial maintenance is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and continuously improve the company’s health and safety policies, procedures, and safe work practices.
  • Ensure compliance with Alberta occupational health and safety legislation and client requirements.
  • Provide practical safety guidance to employees, supervisors, and management.
  • Conduct shop and field inspections and address unsafe conditions or behaviours promptly.
  • Coordinate toolbox talks, orientations, safety meetings, and employee training.
  • Manage safety documentation and reporting through SiteDocs.
  • Coordinate hazard assessments, field-level hazard assessments, job hazard analyses, and safe work plans.
  • Investigate incidents, injuries, near misses, and property damage.
  • Identify root causes, recommend corrective actions, and track actions to completion.
  • Maintain accurate safety records and support WCB-Alberta and return-to-work processes.
  • Support safe work involving hot work, confined spaces, work at heights, lifting and rigging, mobile equipment, and hazardous energy.
  • Coordinate Iron Core’s ACSA Certificate of Recognition program and annual COR audit requirements.
  • Conduct or support internal audits, inspections, and corrective-action planning.
  • Maintain employee training records, certifications, and site-access requirements.
  • Manage Iron Core’s ISNetworld account and other client contractor-prequalification systems.
  • Prepare safety statistics, performance reports, training reports, and audit documentation using Microsoft Excel.
  • Review client safety requirements and prepare project-specific safety documentation.
  • Work with operations and Quality Control to support safe work under Iron Core’s ABSA and CWB programs.
