About The Position

DOWAGIAC UNION SCHOOLS is seeking a Health Aide for Justus Gage Elementary. This role involves providing basic health care and first aid to students, assessing their needs, communicating with parents, administering medications under supervision, maintaining records, and responding to medical emergencies. The Health Aide will also follow infection control procedures and maintain confidentiality of student information. Continued education and other duties as assigned are also part of the role.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent required.
CPR, First Aid, and AED certification required or willingness to obtain.
Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive student information appropriately.
Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
Ability to remain calm and use good judgment in emergency situations.
Basic computer and recordkeeping skills.
Ability to follow district policies, health plans, and established medical procedures.

Nice To Haves

Previous experience working in a school, healthcare, childcare, or similar setting preferred.

Responsibilities

Provide basic first aid and care to students
Assess student complaints and determine appropriate next steps in accordance with district procedures and established health protocols.
Contact parents/guardians regarding student illness, injury, or other health concerns as appropriate.
Assist with the administration of student medications in accordance with district policy, physician instructions, and applicable laws and regulations.
Maintain accurate documentation of student health office visits, medications, injuries, and parent/guardian communications.
Assist students with established individual health plans, emergency action plans, and other documented health needs as directed.
Respond appropriately to medical emergencies and contact emergency medical services when necessary.
Follow appropriate infection-control, sanitation, and universal precaution procedures.
Maintain the confidentiality of student health and educational information in accordance with district policy and applicable laws.
Communicate effectively and professionally with students, families, staff, administrators, and healthcare professionals.
Continued education as designated by the District Nurse and Administration
Perform other duties as assigned by the Building Principal, District Nurse, or District Administration.
