About The Position

The Reynoldsburg City Schools’ Health Paraprofessional is responsible for performing a variety of duties in the health clinic, offering assistance and support to staff in the care of students, and performing related clinical and administrative duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Possession of a valid State of Ohio Educational Aide Permit.
  • Possession of a valid CPR/AED and First Aid certification.
  • Successful completion of Medication Administration and Bloodborne Pathogens training.
  • Knowledge of basic first aid and emergency response procedures.
  • Knowledge of student confidentiality requirements (FERPA and related standards).
  • Knowledge of general English grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
  • Knowledge of basic mathematics.
  • Skilled in use of Google Workspace and/or Microsoft Office applications.
  • Skilled in accurate recordkeeping and documentation.
  • Skilled in communicating effectively with students, parents, and staff using tact and discretion.
  • Skilled in responding appropriately to challenging student behaviors.
  • Ability to maintain accurate health and administrative records.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions from licensed staff and administrators.
  • Ability to complete and maintain required trainings and certifications.
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull supplies and equipment.
  • Ability to bend, stoop, reach, and assist with student transfers and positioning.

Nice To Haves

  • Current licensure as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), or Medical Assistant (MA).
  • Previous experience in a K-12 school clinic or pediatric healthcare setting.
  • Experience working with students with complex physical or intellectual needs.
  • Proficiency in PowerSchool or similar Student Information Systems (SIS).

Responsibilities

  • Provide first aid and emergency care to students in the clinic in accordance with district protocols.
  • Document and administer medications accurately, following established protocols, including prescription (Rx), over-the-counter (OTC), and self-carry medications.
  • Check in, count, and sign for medications; verify all medication orders for accuracy prior to administration.
  • Assist licensed staff in mandated vision and hearing screenings.
  • Perform or assist with medical procedures (e.g., catheterization, G-tube feeding, diapering) only after proper training and under the supervision or delegation of a Licensed School Nurse, in accordance with Ohio law (OAC 4723-13).
  • Maintain a safe, sanitary, and organized clinic environment, including proper disposal of sharps and biohazard materials.
  • Assist students with physical needs, such as maneuvering into wheelchairs, changing tables, or other mobility assistance.
  • Assist with clinic setup at the start of the school year.
  • Prepare and distribute classroom first aid kits.
  • Maintain accurate clinic records, daily logs, health folders, and screening documentation.
  • Enter student health information, including new health concerns and immunization data, into PowerSchool and notify the School Nurse of relevant updates.
  • Monitor clinic supplies and assist with inventory and reordering.
  • Support communication with parents/guardians regarding routine health matters as directed.
  • Ensure strict confidentiality of all student health and educational records in compliance with FERPA and applicable privacy requirements.
  • Interact with students in a calm, supportive, and professional manner to maintain order and promote student well-being.
  • Assist in managing student behavior within the clinic consistent with district expectations.
