About The Position

The Head Wrestling Coach leads one unified wrestling program serving both the boys and girls teams at Warren Easton Charter High School. The role owns the full arc of the season: wrestler development, practice and match leadership, weight management oversight, academic eligibility monitoring, LHSAA compliance, safety and supervision, and the culture of the program on and off the mat. As one of the school's most visible ambassadors, the coach carries The Easton Way into every meet, every road trip, and every interaction with families, officials, and opposing programs. This is a standalone, part-time, seasonal position. It is both strategic and hands-on: the coach sets the multi-year direction of the program while personally leading training and competition. The position reports on a solid line to the Assistant Principal, Student Life & Supports, with a dotted line to the Athletic Director for scheduling, facilities, transportation, and LHSAA coordination. The role supervises assistant and volunteer coaches as assigned. The role advances the two Eagle Eye Priorities as follows. Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent.
Demonstrated wrestling coaching experience at the high school, club, or collegiate level.
All certifications required of LHSAA coaches, held currently or completed before the first official practice, including first aid and CPR and AED and any state-required coaching coursework.
Working knowledge of LHSAA eligibility and wrestling regulations, including weight-certification requirements, or a credible plan to master them before the season begins.
Satisfactory criminal background check and all clearances required under Louisiana law for work with students.
Availability for afternoon, evening, and weekend practices, matches, tournaments, and team travel across the full season.

Nice To Haves

Bachelor's degree.
A recognized coaching credential, such as a USA Wrestling or National Wrestling Coaches Association certification.
Prior head-coaching experience, including experience leading both boys and girls programs.
A record of developing wrestlers to collegiate opportunities.
Established relationships within the New Orleans and greater Louisiana wrestling community.

Responsibilities

Design and lead all practices, training plans, and match preparation for both programs across the season.
Develop wrestlers technically, tactically, and physically at every level of experience, from first-year wrestlers to college prospects.
Set weight classes, assign lineups, name captains, and assign responsibilities to assistant and volunteer coaches.
Set and model clear standards for effort, sportsmanship, and conduct at every practice, match, tournament, and team function.
Plan offseason development opportunities consistent with LHSAA rules and school policy.
Monitor grades, attendance, and eligibility for every rostered wrestler in coordination with counselors and teachers.
Establish academics-first team structures, including study expectations and regular progress checks.
Communicate early with families and school staff when a student-athlete is at risk academically or behaviorally.
Reinforce the Portrait of a Graduate competencies through team leadership roles and program culture.
Maintain current knowledge of LHSAA bylaws, eligibility rules, and wrestling-specific regulations, including weight management and weigh-in procedures; certify rosters and submit required paperwork on time through the Athletic Director.
Verify that every wrestler has a current physical, an approved weight-certification assessment, emergency contact information, and all required consent forms on file before participation.
Hold and maintain all certifications required of LHSAA coaches, including first aid and CPR and AED, and ensure assistant coaches do the same.
Follow concussion protocols, skin-infection screening, weight-cutting safety guidelines, and injury-reporting procedures, and coordinate with athletic training support.
Provide continuous supervision of students at practices, matches, tournaments, and during team travel, including proper mat and equipment supervision during weigh-ins.
Coordinate dual meets, tournaments, officials, facilities, and transportation through the Athletic Director's office.
Maintain the uniform, singlet, headgear, and mat equipment inventory, and submit budget and purchase requests through approved channels only.
Manage mat and facility readiness and meet-day setup, including weigh-in logistics, in coordination with operations staff.
Follow all school procurement, cash-handling, and fundraising policies; the role makes no independent financial commitments on behalf of the school.
Communicate schedules, expectations, and program updates to families clearly and on a predictable cadence.
Represent the school professionally with officials, opposing programs, media, and the public.
Build interest in the program across the student body and, within LHSAA rules, the broader New Orleans wrestling community.
Partner with alumni and community supporters of Easton athletics through channels approved by school leadership.
