About The Position

The Greater New Bedford Regional Vocational Technical High School is seeking a Head Varsity Wrestling Coach. This position involves following and maintaining knowledge of all District policies, supporting GNBVT sports, and instructing student athletes in wrestling techniques. The coach will manage and supervise athletic activities, contests, and practice sessions, emphasizing character development, sportsmanship, and healthy lifestyles. Responsibilities include traveling with the team, maintaining records, enforcing discipline, supervising students in locker rooms, ensuring a safe environment, and collaborating with the athletic trainer. The coach will also conduct meetings, develop relationships with feeder schools, evaluate assistant coaches, maintain asset inventory, and manage confidential records. Professional representation of the school and district is expected, along with maintaining required certifications.

Requirements

  • Experience or a desire to work in a diverse school district
  • General knowledge of coaching techniques and procedures
  • Knowledge of MIAA rules
  • Demonstrated ability to instruct and supervise student athletes
  • Excellent organizational, communication and interpersonal skills
  • MIAA Coaches Certification

Responsibilities

  • Follows and maintains knowledge of all District policy(ies)
  • Supports the success of all GNBVT sports
  • Assists instruction and demonstrates skill sets and techniques necessary for individual and team achievement in wrestling.
  • Manage and supervise athletic activities, fundraisers, contests, and practice sessions to promote individual growth in athletic skills, teamwork, discipline, respect, and good sportsmanship.
  • Supports the Athletic Department’s initiative of character development within our student-athletes.
  • Travels with student athletes on the team bus both to and from contests.
  • Maintains necessary records and completes required paperwork in a specified time manner for themselves and assistant coaches.
  • Enforces discipline policies and emphasizes sportsmanship and healthy lifestyles.
  • Supervises students in locker rooms after practices and at home/away games and ensures appropriate conduct.
  • Maintains a safe environment and facilities for student athletes at all times.
  • Works with athletic trainer to ensure that medical and safety requirements are met.
  • Interacts thoughtfully and courteously with students, staff, parents, assistant coaches, and officials and resolves conflict in a professional manner.
  • Conducts & attends pre-season parent meeting and end of season awards night for the wrestling program.
  • Ensures that all assistant coaches work together toward a common goal within the wrestling program and develops relationships with feeder schools/leagues.
  • Completes end of season evaluations for all assistant coaches.
  • Works with Coordinator of Athletics to maintain a current inventory of all fixed assets within the athletic department.
  • Appropriately maintains and secures confidential student records and information.
  • Professionally represents the school and the District in interactions with students, parents, community, staff and the media.
  • Completes and maintains appropriate certifications as required, including MIAA Coaches Certification.
  • Other duties may be assigned.
