About The Position

The Head Teacher - Toddler Room will plan, implement, and supervise all classroom activities to promote the healthy emotional, social, intellectual, physical, and language development of each child. This role involves assessing each child's progress in these domains. The Head Teacher will also supervise and mentor student staff and students participating in laboratory experiences through university classes. Additionally, they will participate in staff meetings and parent activities, and collaborate as part of the center leadership team to assist the director in coordinating all program activities. Maintaining licensing, accreditation, and continuing education requirements is essential. The position also requires attending staff development activities and planned evening sessions for staff, children, and families.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Education or Early Childhood. Special Education, Child Development and Family Studies, or related field.
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in a formal preschool setting.
  • Experience with the supervision of employees.
  • Infant/Child CPR and First Aid Certification within 30 days of start date.
  • Eligible to work in the United States on or before the effective date of appointment (U.S. citizen or national, lawful permanent resident, or foreign national authorized to work without employer sponsorship).
  • Maintain work authorization without sponsorship for the duration of their appointment.
  • Pass a background check with the Department of Human Services and maintain the ability to pass applicable background checks throughout employment.
  • Visually supervise small children and able to move quickly to intervene in an emergency.
  • Ability to move quickly to bend, lift and carry a young child weighing up to 55 pounds.
  • Must be able bodied and ambulatory.

Nice To Haves

  • Current Minnesota License in Early Childhood (Pre-kindergarten) or Birth to grade 3 or Early Childhood Special Education License.
  • Experience working in a university lab school setting.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of child development for children birth to 5 years of age.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of current child assessment practices.
  • Experience with planning and implementing curriculum that meets the various needs of the group of children.
  • Demonstrated experience with the development of appropriate behavior guidance techniques.
  • Demonstrated commitment to fostering a diverse working and learning environment.

Responsibilities

  • Attend planned evening sessions for staff, children and families.
  • Work safely at all times, including participating and completing all required safety trainings, and performing all job tasks in accordance with Minnesota State University, Mankato policies and procedures utilizing appropriate tools, equipment and personal protective equipment.
  • Notify the supervisor no later than the beginning of your next shift of any charges, allegations, convictions that may impact their standing under the applicable background check.
