About The Position

We are looking for a Head Swim Instructor to lead our programs across our Kanata and Nepean locations. This is a dual role where you will be in the water teaching and also leading your team of instructors. You will move between our Kanata and Nepean locations, with part of your work (scheduling, admin, reporting) being done remotely, and the rest on deck, in person. This position is available full-time or part-time, with weekend availability being essential. The starting rate is $23.00/hour. Full-time employees who complete a three-month probationary period are enrolled in our group insurance benefits plan.

Requirements

  • At least 3 years of swimming instruction experience.
  • At least 2 years of people leadership experience.
  • Ability to lead without relying on authority.
  • Patience with beginners and firmness with struggling instructors.
  • Clear and warm communication with families, instructors, and management.
  • Takes ownership of problems.
  • Reliable personal transportation.
  • Comfortable moving between Kanata and Nepean locations.
  • Organized to manage remote admin alongside a busy on-deck schedule.
  • Valid National Lifeguard (NL) certification.
  • Standard First Aid with CPR-C certification.
  • Vulnerable Sector Check (required for 18 years and older).
  • Eligibility to work in Canada.

  • Swim Instructor certification.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver private, semi-private, and group lessons to children and adults.
  • Tailor every lesson to the individual swimmer.
  • Track progress and communicate meaningfully with families after every lesson.
  • Supervise, coach, and inspire the team of instructors across both locations.
  • Observe lessons and provide feedback to instructors.
  • Support the onboarding and training of new team members.
  • Participate in the hiring process for new instructors.
  • Maintain standards for on-deck safety, quality, professionalism, and attitude.
  • Act as the first point of contact for issues or escalations.
  • Connect with parents and build trust to retain families.
  • Handle concerns and escalations with empathy and confidence.
  • Perform remote scheduling, administrative tasks, and reporting.
  • Keep records and scheduling up to date and accurate.
