About The Position

The YMCA of Memphis and the Mid-South is seeking a full-time Head Start Teacher for the Grace Early Learning Center. This position is responsible for ensuring the successful operation of an early learning Head Start classroom, supporting the academic, social, and emotional development of young children. The role supports the Y's mission as a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. Under the general direction of the Center Director, the Head Teacher will ensure the classroom meets all standards and provides a high-quality, developmentally appropriate curriculum.

Requirements

  • At least a conferred associate's or bachelor's degree in early childhood.
  • Any degree in a related field (associate or beyond) with at least 24 hours of early childhood coursework.
  • Any degree (associate or beyond) with a current Child Development Associate (CDA) or enrolled to finish a CDA within the first year of employment.
  • Any degree in a related field (bachelor's or beyond) with enrollment in an early childhood program (Teach for America, Relay, U of M Grow Your Own, etc.).

Responsibilities

  • Lead assigned classroom and take responsibility for ensuring all classroom standards are met.
  • Coach and support assistant Teachers in areas including planning and implementation of the classroom daily schedule and structure.
  • Provide a high quality, developmentally appropriate curriculum meeting state of Tennessee early education standards.
  • Complete developmental portfolios on enrolled children.
  • Ensure parents are communicated with regarding their child’s development through daily use of parent communication tools and parent conferences.
  • Maintain clean, stimulating, and orderly program spaces.
  • Submit order requests for appropriate supplies, equipment, and materials in a timely manner.
  • Maintain accurate and complete records.
  • Establish and follow emergency procedures that meet or exceed all safety and licensing standards.
  • Plan and conduct parent involvement events (e.g., Parent Group, picnics, holidays, and parent/child activities).
  • Participate and take an active role in planning program promotion and publicity.
  • Attend all monthly staff meetings and required trainings.
  • Comply with all risk management standards to ensure a safe environment, responding to all incidents and following the YMCA incident management process.
  • Assure compliance with state and local regulations, operating their classroom in conformity to state/county licensing and agency regulations.
  • Maintain all trainings and education hours required by the State of Tennessee Department of Human Services-Child care Licensing.
  • Ensure that program standards are met and safety procedures are followed.
  • Model superior communication and leadership to their classroom team to include teachers, assistant teachers, and classroom aides.
  • Assume other duties and responsibilities as assigned by and agreed to with the Center Director or Child care Coordinator to meet the changing needs of the program.
